He tells them what their policies should be, he pre-approves columns with them and gives heads up about potential problems.

That is true. However it still strikes me how informal the email is and how it implies a sense of friendship beyond just a reporter and his source. I mean, on its own, it is a weak piece of evidence, but it does serve to bolster other stronger pieces of evidence.
