Tell us more.

China is making artificial islands in the South China Sea and many southeast asian countries are pissed off because its in areas where they've made territorial claims. They took it to the Hague, who have now passed a ruling that tells China to stop.

America doesn't want those artificial islands there because they can be used as a submarine base allowing the Chinese to break out into the pacific and target the US mainland with nuclear weapons.

Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam are basically cosying up to the US in the hopes they will get China to stop. Surprisingly Taiwan is not and voted against the ruling, probably for fear of getting their shit pushed in.

I welcome it

It's great.

Its going to be fun when the CIA starts funding the Uighur,Tibetan, democratic,Maoist,Christian, falun gong separatists and ferments a civil war in china causing the communist party to fall apart

Why is the US the only country deemed worthy of force projection?

because they're the only ones capable?

wait you mean staking claims, i thought force projection was being able to be everywhere at once

Because America is the best country in the world and as the defenders of Freedom and Democracy they need to be able to fight the forces of Cobra Tyranny wherever they may be.

The Expeditionary PLA is capable.

One of my dreams is to see america getting nuked during my lifetime.

the eternal chink must be crushed

The will probably fund only Uighur Islamist. Islamist and the CIA are like old friends. Everyone else except the Maoist are too small or non-violent to do anything. Islamist are the non-western equivalent to south american right wing death squads.

dude nukes lmao

Other countries have been building artificial islands and have stationed troops on existing islands for far longer than China, and neither is China the only nation currently engaged in construction. China is the biggest, meanest state in the region howe- oh, nevermind, that's the US. Except the US is completely, legitimately complaining that China might step outside its torture chamber and run up against US military bases, which were there first.

Vietnam, the Philippines, etc. don't get shit for it because they're opportunistically siding with the US against China. Concerning the Paracels, Vietnam might have kicked China's ass on the mainland during their brief war in the late 70s, but they still lost the islands. The Philippines are hot under the collar about the Spratleys, but they're imperialist lackeys to the core, so fuck 'em. Taiwan has very similar claims to China but no one cares because it's Taiwan. It's absurd that China thinks their stupid nine-dash line entitles them to exclusive development of any resources within it, but they really only adopted a hard line when cooperative efforts either came to naught or were sunk due to political pressure from the US and other countries.

All in all it's a gangbang of shoddy, subjective claims and imperialist meddling and bluster.

Replace that with Scarborough Shoal. Spratleys are much further south.

sauce?

Troops have been stationed on various islands by many claimants since probably the late 60s onwards. I think the Philippines got into the Spratleys in '68 IIRC. It's a very old dispute that's been simmering for decades.

I get the feeling that the US and the rest of Asia would love to knock China down a peg or two. I also get the impression that China is just as up for the fight.

This but unironically. Wars have a proven record of being able to start socialist revolutions.

fuck off jason

Who with who?

I don't see Philippines and/or Malaysia declaring war on China (or it becoming Great War is they do). Nor do I see US of A going balls to the wall and declaring war on China. That ship has sailed forty years ago.

Most of east asia with US backing vs China.

I think we all need to ask ourselves what a war would even be, today.

Our artillery is so powerful and cost heavy to produce that using our existing weapons on the same scale as WW2, we'd all be out of ammo in a matter of days. Not to mention the scale of the damage that could be done in those two days; not even considering nuclear weapons yet.

The reality is that a large scale organized conflict is unlikely to occur between two militarily advanced states, because both know what a disaster it would be. War, now, looks more like trade embargoes, cyber attacks, and on the ground maybe so threatening stations of troops or small guerilla skirmismes, likely by proxy "extremists" or the like in the pocket of the aggressor states.

I have a feeling that if anti-establishment sentiment rises on the right and left in the west, the chessboard will be flipped and a big war will start in an attempt to reverse it

they needed the large amount of weapons in WW2 because they were so inaccurate

a dozen skeet cluster bombs can take out a whole tank battalion now

I can totally see people in 1913 saying this words letter by letter.

You could see people in 1913 talking about WW2 in the past tense?

because the top dog sets the rules.

Guevara pls go
