how do we know if there really isn't any oxygen in space? sure there aren't any trees or other flora in space but the same could be said for deserts and people can breathe just fine there. is it because we were told that there isn't any oxygen in space that people who died there, died because they held their breath too long?

Why do clouds float if they are heavier than air?

how do we know if there really isn't any oxygen in space?
we don't, we believe that to be the case

now the real question is: is anyone willing to test this theory?

Andrew Powell
Andrew Powell

Even if there were oxygen in space, we KNOW it is a vacuum and there is no air pressure, therefore you couldn't even take a "breath" if you tried.

Clouds are much more mysterious.

but if no one alive has tested it,how do we know it's a vacuum? how do we know NASA is actually trying to find ways to travel to other planets safely? how do we know they aren't wasting our time and tax dollars?

This is how shit like flat earth gets popular.

Please learn the laws of physics and all these ideals will fall into order for you. Space is a vaccum. It doesnt mean theres no oxygen. Theres all kinds of gases in space. Fuck, jupiter is like all gas. In order to breathe you need a mixture of gases, primarily nitrogen and oxygen, to be contained in an atomosphere. And I havent even touch on appropriate pressure

how do we know you aren't a flat earther trying to get us into space and kill ourselves?

Because things have mass. Things like Oxygen for example. And the Earth. Gravity is a thing OP, use it.

Luke Wilson
Luke Wilson

oxygen isn't in direct correlation with gravity

Nolan Sullivan
Nolan Sullivan

But it's mass in relation to the gravitational field of the Earth where you live is. You can't have a lung-breathable atmosphere of any makeup outside of the gravitational well of a planet the size of Earth.

Every element is present in space as part of the Solar wind whipping through it, but you certainly wouldn't be able to breath any of it in that hard vacuum.

There is Oxygen in space though
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engraved_Hourglass_Nebula

but like others ITT have said, it's not exactly breathable in a vacuum

how do we know if there really isn't any oxygen in space?
There is. While it happens to be concentrated in certain parts of space (like Earth's atmosphere, which does not exist outside of space), there are small numbers of oxygen atoms in the space between planets and even interstellar space.
