The reason Linux is king on Servers is because of history. UNIX was developed by a telecommunication company for networking equipment. Linux is a clone of UNIX designed to be compatible with it. Thus it became the most logical upgrade path when UNIX stopped being supported. That's it, it's just history, not because it's particularly better or worse than Windows.
