SYLACAUGA, AL (WBRC) -

The Sylacauga High School student who was badly beaten on Friday night is listed in fair condition in the ICU.

The police chief said investigators spoke with medical staff at the hospital on Tuesday to try to determine what happened.

Police say Brian Ogle, who had been involved in a “minor” dispute on campus last week, was beaten by several people in a parking lot following the high school football game Friday night.

Ogle's mom said her son suffered a fractured skull. She also says he was attacked because he had shown support for police, in response to some students wearing Black Lives Matter shirts at school.

Sylacauga police chief Kelley Johnson said his department is conducting more interviews at the request of the DA's office. He's said there's no timeline on making arrests.

"It's not like you see on TV. I think most people know that but the stuff that is going on social media, wanting things to happen quickly. It's not going to happen quickly,” Johnson said.

Another student was assaulted during lunch on Monday. Johnson said it was connected to the Ogle assault and that the victim's parents are taking legal action.

Police say the victim of the assault on Monday witnessed the initial assault on Friday evening.

There was an increased police presence at the school on Tuesday.

The school’s superintendent says the school system is investigating and will take appropriate disciplinary action.
