Not really.

Critical hit.

I do. For Windows 98 especially.

I used to. But I don't miss ICQ, I don't miss MSN Browser or Messenger, I don't miss AIM, and I don't fucking miss Winamp (which I have installed atm). They all sucked, and they were all during a time of the internet when everything was shit. We used to think that 500 kb/s was the most amazing shit back in the day, and we were paying fucking $200 for it. Nowadays you pay how much for 10 mb/s? $50? If you're lucky enough to live in a soyboy city you can even get Google Fiber for $80, and that's 125 mb/s.

The only thing I MIGHT miss is Visual C++ 6. I'm using Visual Studio 2015, and it's alright, but it just can't compare to how awesome 6 was.

remember this garbage?

LET'S GET ON WITH THE KILLING

Yeah, all the time.

DATAMINING THREAD. REPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I'm a tier above you plebs, I get nostalgic for old computers.

Tell me why 6.0 was awesome devfag. I'm not sure it even had full C++98 compliancy until SP1 (which you probably never even installed) and maybe not even then.

it was much better than what we have now. Now everything is centralized to facebook.

I did have SP1 installed, but 6.0 was awesome because unlike modern versions of Visual Studio you could modify global settings for VC, so instead of spending 10 minutes every new project to add all your .lib, API headers and import your .dlls, you could do it once and never need to again.

...

The only good thing about 98 was its relative simplicity in that you could sort of trust that it wouldn't do things behind your back, other than that it was crap.

Multitasking was crap (one crash could bring down the entire OS) the FAT32 filesystem was crap (slow) and compounding the previous two, fucking ScanDisk would run after each crash, of which there would be many, to scan the FAT32 partitions, slowly. Take off your nostalgia glasses.

the first software mp3 player for Windows.

I feel the need to apologize for my foul mood: sorry.
I guess I'm frustrated that nowadays software is even more shit but for completely different reasons.

Remember Microsoft Comic Chat where people would randomly send you child porn?

if i ever see the kazaa logo i get a bit emotional and nostalgic

i was always into kids but i never really found good naked pics or vids back then. i used to jerk off to my moms pediatric medical books that had minors posed naked and spread vaginas. Id also wait until night time and watch national geographic for the late night documentarys. those had tribal nudity uncensored with young tribe girls showering or climbing trees naked and you would see their goods.

Then kazaa hit. I was 11-13 at the time and watching kids my age fuck was amazing. Dee &Desi. Vicky. Loved it. R@ygold!@@?

I used to rename those files as family friendly names since we had a shared family computer. surprised i never got caught

You know LEA use automatic tools to search by hash and not filename. Your IP was most likely on a list of offenders. It's just that millions of people download CP from p2p networks every year so you just got lucky.

i doubt id have gotten in trouble anyway. arrest a 12yo for looking at porn? hahahahahahaha

reminds me of old Holla Forums memes

Oh I lied, there is something I miss. Windows 2000 Professional. It was essentially Windows XP without the shitty Lua theme or bloated please hold my hand daddy services. It ran blazing fast, and was rather lightweight on resource usage, leaving your system's resources to process what you wanted to do, while giving you the benefits of NTFS rather than FAT32.

But more than anything, this topic just makes me wish the early 2000s because I was still 15-18. I had friends who I went out and did shit with, and life seemed so simple. Nowadays I'm 32 (33 in a few weeks), and I just think of how much I miss those days. Instead I feel like I'm skating through life with no purpose or reason.

pre 2008 4chan had some fucked up memes: salty milk, usbline, etc

Yeah, but it was fun. I miss those days. Habbo raid was the shit. Pool's closed someone pissed AIDS in the swimming pool.

salty milk and usbline became popular because the videos were often mislabled on kazaa/limewire. You would try to download fast and the furious.mpg and iaccidently download child porn.

I miss raiding Tom Green and Stickam

What's the reference?

some kike child rapist

I do miss ICQ or more specifically the QIP client. It was a time when you didn't need to have a facebook account in order to talk to anyone/not become a social outcast. I didn't read the terms and conditions at the time so they may have collected data like kikebook though.

xfire was also a piece of shit

...

...

Yes. I miss Netscape Navigator and my Netscape Mail account. I miss MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Chat, AIM, AOL Chat; all those services which enabled one to chat without having to enter in lots of personal information, be stuck with simplistic and lazy 'metro' style graphics, swamped with leftist drivel everywhere. So tired of all the current rubbish that is controlled and tainted; and worst of all, everything is open to the third worlders.

I miss ICQ , I miss the ICQ games

...

I really don't miss the actual old software and networks, but I do miss their aesthetic. Also the lower barrier of entry with today's computing is not doing humanity any favors.

Funny you should ask, OP. I just stumbled across copies of MS-DOS 5.0 on 5-inch floppies last Friday.

*right in the feels*

there's only 1 old software to be nostalgic about, tbh

Yeah…WIN9x…pic related

No. Doom sucked.
Unreal was the shit though.

this is how i know you're a nigger
it was ok. still not doom level though

Doesn't really fit, since it's still heavily played, except now everyone is using newer game engine instead of the vanilla DOS one.
Here's a better example of old DOS game.

I only wanted to watch The Matrix tho.

Yes, back in the day people actually cared about optimizing their software.

But you can mod global settings. MS make it a ball ache, and recommend against it, but it can be done.

msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/669zx6zc.aspx#bkmkPropertySheets

VC6 was shit mind. Buggy compiler.

Still have my VC1 and MS C++ 7 (no Visual) floppies.

I sometimes get nostalgic about gopher, ftp and usenet but then I remember how shit they were

Did any of you ever telnet into MUDS?

Fuck yeah, I still make and play MUDs. But nowadays I use CMUD.

This. I remember when the WWW came out. All my bbs nerdbros were like "well it's over, now the nobs (90s word for normies) will be on it"

Nah, those were a lot nicer than the bloated Web 2.0 shit of today that needs buggy/backdoored modern computer.
Also dialup BBS, hell yeah. There used to be dozens of them in my city.

wow. Thats old

nice

I liked the Internet better when it was the wild west. Now the wild west has been tamed and SJW culture is the new Internet culture. Every nigger retard is online now.

ICQ was the best.

Things were better when people had to go home to their computers to text and share photos, instead of being chained to our smartphones.
