Languages provide much more than communication. They're also used to think. When was the last time you had a dream in a foreign language?

Trying to convince every person you have a disagreement with that they're right and you're wrong doesn't make you a tenacious debater, it makes you a sperg. Passing up 99 out of 100 potential arguments because they don't matter (really, they don't) will help train you to land the kill blow in #100. Think of yourself as more like an anthropologist than a debater… you want to learn about the attitudes of the strange people you're living among.

How many musicians are there on Holla Forums, anyway? I play guitar pretty damn well, and can perform multiple styles. I was just coming up with some jazz licks earlier, and I haven't even formally studied jazz lead guitar.

I also started learning Japanese. One hell of a language I tell you, but once you get the hang of it, you start to realize how genius the language actually is. Makes for the most amazing wordplay and puns too. I focused on learning how to write it for a while, now I'm switching over to the speaking.

After a couple years of Japanese, I might go for German, or maybe Russian. Made me realize how much better it is to know two or 3 languages instead of just sticking to your mother tongue.
