Can we be certain that there weren't at one point enough early humans in the plentiful parts of Africa that internal conflicts got bad enough some decided to fuck off even if it meant moving through some hostile, dry regions before reaching the good parts? Africa has a drastically different "carrying capacity" now due to European technology and (((international))) aid. Also the deserts may have been smaller back then so getting to the Mediterranean Sea would have been easier. And once you're there you only have to figure out basic shelter and food sources for the mild winters.
