So let me get this straight: in the middle of Fascist advancement and Republican collapse anarchists decide to revolt, split the anti-Fascist forces, throw the Republic into chaos with the support of a Trot organization (which Trotsky himself didn't support), help Franco win and when they get righteously BTFO, they call it "betrayal" for subsequent generations? This is Bush "they hate our freedoms"-tier.
And what exactly did they expect? That if the Republic didn't destroy them Franco would be like "eh, those are cool" and let them have parts of Spain? I'm flabbergasted.
First of all the P.O.U.M were NOT Trots. Second, the communists (Stalinist) who where in cahoots with the Republican government throughout the entire war tried to hinder the revolution occurring in Catalonia. For example, to my knowledge they basically refused to work with the organizations controlling the region. It got to a point were the tankies essentially invaded the region to "restore order" which in turn had the entire Republican side weakened. The documentary on the Spanish Civil War gives a good outline on what went down with the revolution.
I recommend this book, for an anarchist account of the revolution.
