Genetically Modified Probiotics

How hard would it be to insert a plasmid into a pro-biotic bacteria and what equipment would I need to do it? Any proteins out there I could insert to speed up my metabolism or to improve cognition?

Wtf is a plasmid?

Do you not think there're people working on this shit? What makes you think you'd be able to just do it by asking some fuckers on Holla Forums?

The genetics of a bacterium are contained within a plasmid which is a ring of DNA.

Play Bioshock and you'll find out.

Most researchers are looking for medical treatments not enhancements.
Who knows maybe we have a couple of people with backgrounds in biology. I know bacteria are modified in the lab all the time. So why couldn't your gut bacteria be modified?

Smart idea but someone is probably already working on it.

no one can learn anything from bioshock.

So? There are plenty of different biomolecules and protiens you could make the bacteria produce.

Speaking pragmatically, you yourself are not genetically modified so there is absolutely every logical reason to avoid anything that's genetically modified at all costs. Stop fucking with nature we've proven time and again this doesn't do us any good. Looked into the golden ration and how perfect everything is already? They're gimping us into an inferior species. If you want superior cognition stop consuming all junk. Almost all western food is 14 or less nutrients and minerals. Brocolli has over 1000, many of which haven't even been given proper names yet and these are all necessary for our bodies and brains to function. They are not nor have they EVER been optional. Wonder why everyone is foggy headed, depressed, and thinks they're autistic? It's because we're not eating real food anymore. We evolved from caloric surplus while eating the sex organs of plants and trees and they're filling our minds with bullshit. What do you think microbes eat? Read a book about real microbiology and nutritional science. The truth lies in what can actually be explained down to the cellular level. Eat more greens veggies buy some frozen blueberries and reduce the bs if you want to improve your metabolism and cognition. It's really not that hard.

...

To get started you would need a thermal cycler, an electrophoresis kit, a pipette, an incubator, restriction enzymes, and ofcourse plastids. You can find the thermal cycler, electrophoresis kit, pipette, and incubator on eBay. addgene.org is good for plastids and nebcutsmart.com has a good selection of restriction enzymes. not sure exactly what you would want the bacteria to produce to enhance cognition or to improve metabolism though. I'm surprised no one has done this yet. The technology is there and the public has access to it.

genetically modified is functionally identical and practically indistinguishable on the genetic from normal

there aren't, like, secret frog chemicals in the dna after modification

and it doesn't cause cancer either, there's literally no reason for it to, both in the organism itself and once consumed by humans. the only way to "catch" cancer from your food is to consume live human stomach cancer. the gm organism is made of the same shit as normal stuff, so no possibility of cancer from just different nucleotide.

Golden Rice, vitamin A enriched rice, ist the poster child of GMO. Many people argue that there should be no regulations on GMO, because Golden Rice could be a remedy to vitamin A deficiency among mothers and children in third world countries.

But it's not even on the market (pic related).

So while >80% of all GMOs are for toxin-resistance, like Roundup ready, we should have no regulations, because there might be a product in the future that might be good? Golden Rice is in development since the 1990s and the release was pushed back for 15 years.

Also there is a safety concern with “Golden Rice”. That is the presence of retinoic acid, which is a metabolite of vitamin A and linked to causing defects of fetus. Earlier strains required people to eat 1.5kg rice daily to meet the vitamin A requirement. Newer strains have higher risks related to retinoic acid.

Glyphosate isn't the only herbicide that is used on GM crop. Another one, made by Bayer, is Glufosinate. Glufosinate inhibits the important plant enzyme glutamine synthetase, which is also found in fungi, bacteria and animals, making Glofosinate toxic to most organisms. But because the transgene used in the Glofisinate-resistant GMOs, the degradation of Glofosinate is blocked. It is merely modified. This slightly modified toxin is preserved on maize or canola for weeks or even months.

nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1505660

The risk assessment studies consisted solely of toxicologic studies commissioned by the herbicide manufacturers in the 1980s and 1990s and were never published, thus couldn't be reproduced or validated by other institutions.

pesticides poison the soil, kill other unrelated bugs/worms, seeps into groundwater and so on and so forth. Pesticide was always a badly implemented idea. Making petrochemical pesticides has only compounded the soil and water pollution associated with its use. All the spokespeople and propagandists promoting gmo's regurgitate the same lines, same arguments about how Monsanto was saving the world.

If you actually follow the money and names, you quickly discover big companies like DuPont and Monsanto are revolving doors for major officials.
Do I oppose genetic engineering? no, but the way it is right now is disgusting and unacceptable.
Currently it is not regulated, not by any scientific standard, in fact, the FDA is so corrupt it can barely be called an institution. The companies are testing their own products, and the FDA stamps approval, no oversight.

Part of the TPP's purpose was to maintain this house of cards before it collapses under its own weight. Partly by attempting to alleviate any means to sue large biotech corporations or like bodies. Engineering food is incredibly complex, its not like mechanical engineering, or computer engineering, even software engineering doesn't cut it close. The amount of data in the genome is enormous, even if you map it, its full of bugs. If your method of genetic engineering isn't flawless, then bugs will occur, and they may multiply. This has been found to occur when testing genetically engineered products in independent laboratories not bought and paid, or silenced by the PTB.

If anyone is going to create genetically engineered organisms, I want it to be genetically engineered for a really important reason like genetically engineering a plant that is high in nutrition and can grow in an environment plants from Earth cannot normally grow. Genetic engineering is essential for terraforming, living in space, or underwater, or improving the human race. probably in the future people will be able to customize themselves and be any way they want to be. In that, I have no arguments against its implementation so long as it has been thoroughly tested and proven by multiple different completely unbiased and completely seperate (without any connections to each other) proffesionals and scientists and authorities to be perfectly understood.

Humanities level of knowledge of genetic modification technology is at a pathetic baby-like level. we are babies that can't even speak our first words when it comes to this technology, we are playing with fire and are hundreds of years away from having nearly enough knowledge to use genetic modification technology safely and responsibly.
However if you are going to incorporate your poisonous and dangerous crops into a massive biosphere that will in no way guarantee what you see in an enclosed lab will occur out in nature, then you can go throw your gmo's in the trash.

We haven't reached the level of CLEAN and PRECISE genetic engineering yet. Nor a complex understanding of what we currently think to be clean and precise form of gene manipulation, and all of its unforeseen consequences.
ALL engineering has a concept of unforeseen consequences. Engineers are taught that they cannot possibly know all scenarios that will play out, or have all of the contingencies.

Yet when it comes to Monsanto and DuPont they expect everyone to lay down at their feet, and praise their work as immaculate and without risk.

Most of all, I would reject and oppose perfect genetically engineered crops if they are being delivered to me by my enemies, those who want to wipe out my race and my culture and my way of life because of corporate profit and shareholder demand (same reason EA is so bad)

scientists famous lasts words
"without effecting the environment"

"OOPS we affected everything and everyone, resident evil apocalypse now"

No, I'm not against genetic engineering, but people are fucking stupid and we have no clue or idea how to use these emerging technologies responsibly. This is why I hate monsanto. they don't give a shit about experience or safety. They care about profit and convincing everyone to trust them.

exactly what the shills want people to think, this is why they flood every anti monsanto thread with their crap so that they can trick idiots into not knowing what's going on.

bottom line, monsanto is really evil and hates everyone and only wants everyones money and they don't care who gets sick because that's just more profit for big pharma which they ARE.

USDA passes on oversight of cooking oil new to store shelves
Monsanto, DuPont, Dow developing crops with the new technology

Products made possible through gene-editing have landed on grocery shelves. Whether they’ll stay there is up to shoppers wary of technological tinkering.

Food companies are now required to label GMOs in Vermont, and debate is raging over a federal standard. But so far, regulators at the U.S. Department of Agriculture have taken a pass on overseeing gene-edited crops. They say cutting DNA from a plant is not the same as adding genes from another organism. So corn injected with outside DNA is classified a genetically modified organism, but canola that can tolerate herbicide because scientists removed a gene is not.

here again we see the mainstream shill media twising the truth.

Monsanto's Dark Act Ready for Obama's Signature Anonymous 07/20/16 (Wed) 05:56:00 No.465973

“Let folks know when their food is genetically modified, because Americans have a right to know what they’re buying.” - Barack Obama, 2007

Really?

In the last eight years, the global outcry against Monsanto and the other biotech giants has accelerated—but not a significant peep has emerged from the Obama White House.

And now, the bill dubbed The Dark Act is ready for Obama’s signature. It will make GMO labels on food an exclusively federal matter—and those labels will be confusing, weak, and therefore meaningless for the majority of Americans. The Dark Act is basically a free pass for Monsanto and the other biotech giants.

After his victory in the 2008 election, Obama filled key posts with Monsanto people, in federal agencies that wield tremendous force in GMO food issues—the USDA and the FDA:

At the USDA, as the director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Roger Beachy, former director of the Monsanto Danforth Center.

As deputy commissioner of the FDA, the new food-safety-issues czar, the infamous Michael Taylor, former vice-president for public policy for Monsanto. Taylor had been instrumental in getting approval for Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.

As commissioner of the USDA, Iowa governor, Tom Vilsack. Vilsack had set up a national group, the Governors’ Biotechnology Partnership, and had been given a Governor of the Year Award by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, whose members include Monsanto.

As the Agriculture Trade Representative, who would push GMOs for export, Islam Siddiqui, a former Monsanto lobbyist.

As the counsel for the USDA, Ramona Romero, who had been corporate counsel for another biotech giant, DuPont.

As the head of the USAID, Rajiv Shah, who had previously worked in key positions for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a major funder of GMO agriculture research.

We should also remember that Obama’s Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, once worked for the Rose law firm. That firm was counsel to Monsanto.

Obama nominated Elena Kagan to the US Supreme Court. Kagan, as federal solicitor general, had previously argued for Monsanto in the Monsanto v. Geertson seed case before the Supreme Court.

The deck was stacked. Obama hadn’t simply made honest mistakes. Obama hadn’t just failed to exercise proper oversight in selecting appointees. He was staking out territory on behalf of Monsanto and other GMO corporate giants.

And now let us look at what key Obama appointees have wrought for their true bosses. Let’s see what GMO crops have walked through the open door of the Obama presidency.

Monsanto GMO alfalfa. Monsanto GMO sugar beetsMonsanto GMO Bt soybean. Syngenta GMO corn for ethanol. Syngenta GMO stacked corn. Pioneer GMO soybean. Syngenta GMO Bt cotton. Bayer GMO cotton. ATryn, an anti-clotting agent from the milk of transgenic goats. A GMO papaya strain. Genetically engineered salmon.

Obama was, all along, a stealth operative on behalf of Monsanto, biotech, GMOs, and corporate control of the future of agriculture.

Obama ready to sign GMO label measure

triblive.com/usworld/nation/10788271-74/bill-including-genetically

" The Senate-passed labeling bill, S. 764, is to be taken up Thursday in the House. The chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, Republican Mike Conaway of Texas, has signaled his approval, making it more likely the proposal will pass the chamber and end up on Obama's desk. Under the legislation, which has been pushed for by companies including Monsanto, Wal-Mart Stores and groups including the National Corn Growers Association, consumers may still find it hard to figure out if the food they are buying is genetically modified, leading opponents to dub the bill the DARK Act. "

Obama ready to sign food-label bill consumer groups find suspect

denverpost.com/2016/07/13/obama-to-sign-food-label-bill/

"The law doesn’t mandate printing “GMO” on the exterior, instead offering three options for disclosure: text on the packaging, a symbol, or an electronic link that would direct consumers to a website for more information.

Beef, pork, poultry and eggs wouldn’t be subject to labeling, though the deal would cover many other grocery staples including corn flakes and cooking oil. The bill also would tightly define genetic engineering in ways the biotech industry wanted, not including new techniques such as gene editing.

State-imposed labeling requirements would be banned and producers that have secured a “certified organic” designation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture would be allowed to clearly display a “non-GMO” label on their products.

The push for a nationwide standard is in response to a law that took effect in Vermont on July 1 requiring disclosure of GMO ingredients on food labels. That rule, plus other initiatives in Maine, Connecticut and other states, has food companies and commodity-growers concerned about a patchwork of state laws that would impede commerce, expose them to fines, needlessly scare consumers about safe products and force expensive reformulations of food products to become GMO-free.

“There is too much at stake in the marketplace to let the consequences of the Vermont law linger any longer,” said Richard Wilkins, a Delaware soybean farmer and president of the American Soybean Association, in a statement after the Senate vote.

Coca-Cola Co., the world’s largest soft-drink company, said June 28 it expects to pull some of its beverages from Vermont stores to avoid penalties. General Mills Inc., Campbell Soup Co., Kellogg Co., Conagra Foods Inc. and Mars Inc. have all developed new labels to comply with Vermont, which has defended its law in courts and in Congress, where Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders briefly threatened to hold up the Senate’s vote on the measure.

The implementation of the law has caused confusion and concern among Vermont retailers and food distributors, said Erin Sigrist, president-elect of the Vermont Retail and Grocers Association. And as the state adopts the new rules, there have been worries about shortages of staple items, including things like baby formula.

Food companies also find themselves navigating uncharted waters. Dannon, the leading seller of yogurt in the U.S., sent some Vermont retailers GMO labels and asked for their help applying the stickers “in some situations due to the logistics of distribution,” according to the company. Dannon said in April that it would label all of its products in the U.S. for GMOs by December 2017.

But pre-empting Vermont with an industry-friendly law will thwart the goal of helping consumers know where their food comes from, said Dana Perls, senior food and technology campaigner for Friends of the Earth, an environmental advocacy group.

“This bill is a travesty, an undemocratic and discriminatory bill which preempts state laws, while offering no meaningful labeling for GMOs,” said Perls. "

"The bottom line is that the junk food “parent” companies of leading organic brands such as General Mills, Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Danone, Smuckers, ConAgra, do not want GMO labeling, so they’ve instructed their underlings in the OTA to tell Congress (Republicans and Clinton Democrats alike) that it’s OK to kill the popular Vermont bill. Among the outrageous lies of the Organic Traitors is the claim that “25,000 more products” will be “labeled” under the DARK Act, when in fact, as even the FDA was forced to admit this week, almost no foods will have to be identified by a QR smart code or a 1-800 number, five years or so down the road, when the DARK Act finally gets implemented.
