HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A REAL DIVERSE TEAM

HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A REAL DIVERSE TEAM

HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A TEAM THAT DIDN'T PANDER BUT WAS STILL UNIQUE

Pic related is my example of best """""diverse""""" team

One Malaysian, Female from Tajikistan, Schmuck from Sweden and a random Canadian

Simple: by not forcing race and nationality on your characters just for the sake of the diversity quota; and by not marketing your team as something "progressive and diverse" to get the attention and approval of the millennials

KND and Xiaolin Showdown are shows that also did diversity right

It's ridiculously easy, honestly. Make a diverse team. Let SJWs make the character up, for christ sakes. But don't make their "diversity" the only point about the character. Look at . In Xiaolin Showdown, it was obvious that they were diverse from the beginning. But didn't go into detail about any character's past until after the world and characters were established. Yes, we knew Clay was a Texan hick from the get go, but that's not why we liked him. Omi wasn't "The chink," he was the arrogant midget retard. The problem is when people make a character a trans-kin negro and expect us to care about them on that alone.

It's really not that hard. Wrestling has been doing it easily for years.

Diverse characters, not [just] skin color. Give them backgrounds and personalities worth a damn that can play off of each other. Shouldn't be that hard in theory.

Just write a good story

I'd make forced diversity part of the plot. Like, they have an actual quota, and all the resentment and drama that goes along with that.

If your going to put different races in there. Focus on the culture at least. I'm sick of them putting Arabs, Asians, blacks and etc. and they're all a bunch of American hipster faggots.

Is Dust still in the X-Men? I liked how she was the only one in her class who didn't buy in to Xorn/Magneto's mutant-supremacist pseudo-Nazi Planet X bullshit.

I don't know anymore.

I like that you made Aang the monkey king.

Get ready for a wall of text. Plenty of legit diversity and re-purposing Marvel's cucked BS.

The Punisher is hired to lead a multi-national mercenary unit to finish the job that the Champions half-assed in the Middle East.

They do this Green Beret style by training up indigenous forces.

Miss Marvel is rescued by the merc unit and has her world view shattered by having to watch Frank Castle do Frank Castle things, and accepting that this is how you do business in the Middle East.

Eventually the combined Merc/Indigenous/Champion force crushes IS completely, but at great cost.

The Mercs, just see this as the ending of another job. The Champions on the other hand are rocked to the core.

Khan is scarred for life by her experiences. Not only by the atrocities that she witnessed (like that first town being slaughtered in reprisal) but by the very lethal violence she and the other Champions had to commit to finish the fight they inserted themselves in. They go home, but home isn't what it used to be.

The book ends in a manner similar to how The Hurt Locker ended. With the characters having serious difficulty returning to normal (non-lethal) cape work. Different members deal with their traumas differently. Scott is able to compartmentalize, others maybe less so.

Sounds pretty good. Though isn't Frank himself enough to kill terrorists? Still I would like to see Frank and his mercenaries do more merc jobs around the world dealing with different terrorist groups and what not.

I wanted to do a "Jagged Alliance 2 meets Marvel in the Middle East" sort of things.

This is unrelated but what are your thoughts on Army of Two? Would you recommend it?

The old ones are fun bro-tier popcorn shooters. If you find them for cheap they're good entertainment. Salem and Rios are two bros who shoot people for fun and profit.

I heard Devil's Cartel was pretty bad though. You should skip it.

Image related.

You know, the whole idea of a team of mercs going around killing terrorists and what not sounds awesome. Is there a comic of it? I know there's the Losers from what I've heard its not worth reading.

It doesn't need to be explained if it makes sense. Like, people with mutant abilities are popping up all over the world, so your team of mutant heroes is a bunch of kids from different nations. Or, a mutagen bomb goes off in downtown Philly so a bunch of the resulting metahumans are black. The wrong way to do it is to make it weird and then pointedly not explain it. Like, your superhero team for lilly-white Portland, OR is a black dude, a Mexican dude and an Arab chick AND WELL IT JUST WORKED OUT THAT WAY DOES IT BOTHER YOU SHITLORD???

Don't treat race (or anything else) as just the candy coated shell on your character. Like those awful tumblr comix or Steven Universe where everybody's some different hue of beige-yellow and IT DOESN'T MATTER, MAA-AN. Like your comic doesn't have to be Crash but even in Avatar there's a bit of the characters coming from different fantasy cultures in how they interact. Their basic personalities (playful, serious, combative, whatever) matter more but their culture's still in there.

So say you're writing a comic and you want a diverse superhero team. Like there's a rich asian girl and a black guy and a mexican dude and whatever. Somebody is going to bring it up, sooner or later. Like they might crack a joke, "look out P-Town it's the friggin' Rainbow Gang!" You don't have to make a big deal about it at all, just have some human moments of acknowledgment b/c IRL people of wildly different backgrounds DON'T hang out a lot and that's just life.

You can even use that as the reason for the team being together. Daddy's bankrolling the operation because this is how his daughter is changing the world. Even include Daddy as being the guy who vets the new talent for the team (which can and should lead to drama at some point). Capes have to eat too, so using money as an initial glue works from a storytelling perspective.

There's a semi capeshit comic (semi because they don't wear costume but they still have superpower) with the same idea. Great artwork, promising idea, horrible delivery. Oh and it's not American comic so I don't think there's an online archive.

Hee hee. See pic.

Blood Syndicate handled it pretty well, the team were the remnants of several racially homogeneous gangs who had been assembled for a mass fight that was suppressed by the police using experimental tear gas that killed most of them, leaving a small percentage of mutated, powered survivors, who banded together for mutual protection, so you had black, white, latino and asian members, who mostly grudgingly tolerated each other, apart from a few skinheads and black supremacists who refused to join on principle.

Basically The Warriors, with superpowers.

Man, that was a good book. we should storytime it sometime.

Name?

And the old GenXorcist comics with the Elitists approached it head on, like there was one black guy on the team who flipped out at another black guy on another team they were fighting because he was using ebonics, and one guy who was a test tube baby Superman type created by Nazis, who wasn't really all that racist himself, but was always arguing with the black members of the team over non-PC language he'd unthinkingly use, and just wouldn't back down, whose creator hated him because he'd had to resort to secretly using DNA from an existing black superhero to give him just the right powers he wanted…
There's a touch of WEWUS, with the biblical Cain as a black antihero with a Spawn-like living badass longcoat made out of blood, but I forgive the author everything for Kaballah Jones, basically a female Dr. Strange who comes off like if Deadpool and Harley Quinn had a baby who looked like Beyonce.

just gather a bunch of people from different continents and make them all right-wing.

done. nobody will complain.

I can't find the original artwork but it's from a defunct comic magazine called Sequen.

Lol, there was this one moment in the old JLA, when Barry was on angel dust, and Ollie was trying to suggest they recruit Black Lightning, and Barry accuses Ollie of tokenism, and Ollie is so horrified that anyone would think he's being racist…

It was right up there with Triathlon riding up Iron Man because he's "gathering firewood for the rich white lady" (Wasp, lol WASP). I think if Tony had got any more wound up steam would have shot out of his helmet like a steam kettle. Like, PHWEEE!
And maybe he would have done an angry little dance.

Does anyone remember Muhammad X? The angry black superhero who keeps accusing Superman of racism, some of his arguments bordering on breaking the fourth wall to critique his concept, and Superman follows him around for a few days trying to make friends with him… Which is so post-crisis Clark. Pre-crisis Superman would have just told him to stick it. Clark is so beta now, pre-crisis Clark would never be Batman's bitch like he is now. Not to mention letting Lois walk all over him.

...

A man of great taste

Can't top that.

I actually thought about creating a Holla Forums comic in which a bunch of diverse, multicultural meme magicians put aside thier differences to fight the jews. It would end with them returning to thier ancestral countries and building national socialism.

You could make a 'diverse' team by setting it during WW1/WW2/Cold War and have a bunch of people from different nations and force them to work together to fight a bigger evil (Demonic or Supernatural)
The German would be the leader of the group

If you read about WW2 thoroughly not everyone is against the axis or allies. The Turks pretty much fought for their own independence and so many countries as well. The power vacuum caused by colonialists defeated by invading army made several countries rise up immediately. It will be interesting if there's a story about a group of diverse people fighting against both axis and allies.

That's pretty cool
At least something where no single country is the bad guy.

Yes, money is always a solid choice when considering motivations to bring a diverse bunch of people who'd only ever interact under very contrived circumstances together. There's an old movie from the 90s I can't recall the name of now but it's literally about a millionaire who dies and leaves his whole fortune up for grabs to the winner of a literal physical race to the treasure. The "invitation" gets sent out to a bunch of different people like a black lady who works at the DMV, a teen, Mr. Bean, etc.

There's also fame. In Tiger & Bunny (for ex.) superheroes are a corporatized Reality TV show; in My Hero Academy there's a literal Hogwarts-style special school all the superheroes have to go to. These are all great setups to bring together a bunch of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds if that's what you want.

Of course it's also fine if that's NOT what you want. A lot of comics nowadays suffer because they try to have diverse casts while they're written by white numale nerdlingers in their 30s or 40s who have basically only ever talked to other middle class geeks their whole lives, and their thought process is "well, people talking a certain way is just a stereotype, I bet they don't really talk that way, I'll make them talk like ~normal people~" and then you get characters who are supposed to be poor or from exotic places talking like iphone toting hipsters and it's bleh. Point is, if you aren't ready to write in a voice radically different from yours—which probably means RESEARCH—then fuck it, just write a superhero team who are a bunch of middle class majority ethnicity cislord assholes. It's not the end of the world!

They don't even need to be paid well; perhaps they were chosen because the budget for labor was low, and the diversity that occurred did so because it was the best you could get with what little funds were available.

Take it one step further and add language/cultural barriers.

Stand Still Stay Silent does an excellent job of all that. The main group is composed of 2 Finns, a Swede, a Norwegian, a Dane, and an Icelander; all of which are fluent in their own language, and some in one other.

Rat Race?

My idea for a diverse team of people would be in my Godzilla series. Essentially you would have this team of soldiers and scientists from all different backgrounds fighting agains kaiju and studying them. They're called the Earth Defense Force and are essentially a United Nations military except they're actually effective. One thing I wanted to do with this was introduce a group called the Red Bamboo a South East Asian terrorist group. The Red Bamboo feels the EDF only works in favor of the major world powers so they strike back feeling exploited and using Ebirah a kaiju as their weapon. Also, there would be some human villains using kaiju as weapons like one Russina mad scientist creating a Franken-kaiju that is made out of the body parts of dead kaiju and some machinery.

Hell, I think GI Joe would count as a diverse team. You can have them meet up with other groups from different countries like the Oktober Guard from Russia, this European counterpart to GI Joe and Argen 7 which is this Argentinian counterpart to GI Joe.

A little off topic but I hate how so many of SSSS readers seem to be waiting in the wings for Minna to fuck up so they can jump down her throat, all because SSSS isn't "diverse" enough.

Don't they normally live in the cities though and not make up a majority of the population?

All the minorities in Scandinavia would probably be wiped out by the rash because they were concentrated in urban areas and don't have farms, forest cabins, and boats to camp out in like the MC's families did.

If someone wanted to make a SSSS with minorities my guess is the only way to do it would be to set the story in the former USA or some other fruit salad country.

EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF!

The answer is simple, just ignore those people. I mean no one complained when the One Piece crew are mostly light skinned people (except for one Deer and one Skeleton) because Oda care more about making story and tits.

I know, user. But I get so frustrated when I see something as great as SSSS getting shit on because of these dumb-fucks overdosing on white-guilt. I mean look at this beautiful comic, this is online for free!

I'd make it so fucking big that I have to start giving people diverse backgrounds just to remember I even created them.

There's a few races and cultures we rarely if ever see in fiction. Koryo-saram, like Dragon Lee/Vyachaslev Yaksysnyi, the Bruce Lee clone.
Ainu, who you hardly see even in Japanese media. And I've yet to see an American author do any research on Australian natives. X-Men's Gateway and Batman's The Aboriginal were just embarrassing. Except for Mike Baron, who redesigned The Wombat after Gary Chaloner pointed out how he was drawn looking like an African. Lord, how the fans freaked out.
Basques, they're interesting.

I wouldn't.

Well, damn… Maybe I should check this one out.

I wish. They are everywhere nowadays. I live in a smallish town (a city only on paper), with just under 8000 people in the entire municipality, so I can only guess at how the larger cities are holding up.

Pretty much the full answer right here.

Also why I think it worked for extreme ghostbusters.

Well, you can't please everyone. Silver lining: there's less dipshits now than there was before.

I don't read through much of the comments, so I don't know if its as you say, but most of the comments seem to be in support of the author or discussing current happenings in the plot (at least in recent strips).

It seems when most people think of minority they immediately expect a difference in skin color, and nothing more. In SSSS the majority have returned to old Norse/pagan/etc religious beliefs and have lost access to a great deal of knowledge/ideas from other parts of the world. This makes for an interesting moment when 2 of the characters have a run-in with a nun.

GASP! But user, that would imply all these oversensitive cunts were… Racist!

The first one is pretty bland but ultimately fun. The story is about killing dur turrists but Opps turns out the PMC you work for is manufacturing wars to stay in business. Best Sidearm customization

40th Day is damn good, got the mechanics tuned to perfection, Customization is great. Story is about Salem and Rios having started a PMC get paid to do a simple job, this leads to a massive NWO style uprising in China and you have to go fix it. Has multiple choices for some replay.

Devils Cartel has alright customization, but overstays it's welcome for gameplay. Stops following Salem and Rios to follow Average and Bland to take down a single Cartel operation in Mexico and failing to protect a Mexican politician.

On topic, it's simple don't make them faggots. To expand on that statement, a faggot is someone who only has "being Gay" going for them. They are different from a gay man (a man who happens to like to fuck other men) as faggot is defined only by fucking other men. Change Faggot to Nigger or spic or whatever as needed.

Not him but yeah he's describing Rat Race. I actually though it was Mystery Men just reading 90's movie, and it fits the topic nicely.

You know, I was just rewatching Futurama, and I realized that the Planet Express is highly diverse, but it is handled really well and no one gets special treatment.
Leela is a strong woman, but she still has lots of insecurities, likes girly things, she is being irresponsible and selfish as often as she acts as voice of reason, and her attempts to act high and mighty often blow up in her face. And of course she often participates in fanservice.
Bender is Mexican, but he acts like the niggest nigger.
Hermes - his race is brought up only once, for a joke ("I thought he was some kind of space potato man"), his nationality is mostly used as source of stereotypes, and his personality is mostly defined by his profession.
Amy is Asian, but it is almost never mentioned.
Zoidberg is a Jew, but, well, he's Zoidberg.

remember that time leela had a chip implanted in her brain that gave her an electric shock every time she committed or thought about violence?

and then she started associating the pain of the chip with the pleasure of violence so she started orgasming every time she hit someone?

i don't have a point to make, i just like that episode. a lot.

The point of Army of Two is it's a game that's so over the top it became a parody of itself (I only played the 40th day and I used to hate it because of its dude bro nature). But now to think about it it's actually making fun of Gears of Wars who's trying to create a forced drama like "WHERE'S MY WIFE!" or putting some emo song in their advertisement.

The scene when people we saved in previous levels start helping us fighting the terrorist back in the last part of 40th Day is the most glaring example. A bunch of Hong Kongese shooting the enemy from the roof is so over the top I can't help but giggle. Also no matter how much we save the developers got lazy so we actually got the same amount of support. They simply program it so the avatar of people we failed to rescue are not visible. It became ridiculous as I stand from afar and saw some gunshots came from thin air.

Are you sure it's an episode or one of your best wet dream ever?

it was one of the movies

You can't really. All diversity is pandering and egalitarian/Marxist/Globalist drivel.

The first movie, man.

It always pisses me off when an author folds and self-censors when faced with leftist whining. It not just being unprincipled and cowardly; you've just admitted to being an easily bullied mark. They'll never let you off now.

Shut the fuck up, faggot.

I don't give a fuck. That song is now an anthem for overweight kids with thick mascara in their ipod.

Did you even read it? I mean I understand where you're coming from, you give em an inch and they take a mile, but this author was adamant about not caring about stepping on eggshells every time they make a joke. As soon as the author brought to attention how over the top the anger was over a trivial and in-character comment, the responses were largely positive and supportive. In the grand scheme of things, nothing really changed.

Eh, I'd say it depends. If by diverse, you just mean different or varied, then sure it's possible.

Oh boy here wego

wait they were the ones who originally did that song?

"Diverse" cast….
hmmmmmmmm……….

I'm about to blow everyone's mind.

Want a diverse team? Make a team filled with members who have specialized abilities. Make it so that they each have powers and ways to thwart the enemy that make them unique and distinctly valuable. This concept is so new and fresh I'm not sure if people will accept but in time, I'm sure that people will open their minds and hearts to this new progressive form of diversity.

The easiest way is to write people like people you know. Larry Hama wrote Joes and Cobra characters of all different attitudes, races and ideas. Course, he met a lot of different people while in the military, and could draw from life experience to make rounded characters of different types. That's why ideologues, right, left or whatever, make shit books. Cultists don't go out and get to know different sorts of people. As long as you're writing well developed people, you don't have to be overly worried about race or gender unless that directly effects why they are the way they are, which will vary in importance more due to the setting and how you portray society within it.

I HEARD MY NAME

Damn straight user. Wish Renegades got a second season.

Why is GI Joe the best thing ever?

It just was.

Because knowing is half the battle.

GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE LEAF

Just to be clear, did the author undo the self-censorship?

Make the entire team White.

How to become a good writer in 10 easy steps

1. Leave your comfort zone
2. Learn how things work.
3. Leave the fucking house
4. Talk to strangers
5. Get punched in the face at least once.
6. Learn to fight.
7. Leave your comfort zone.
8. Learn how to shoot a gun.
9. Quit being a nu-male beta faggot
10. Leave your comfort zone.

...

damn this show was pretty redpilled.

so a sports anime about competitive shooting?

Yes.

There's already a few airsoft and paintball shows. Usually comedies of some variety. One is even a fujoshi bait show.

truly operator kino

What are their names and would you recommend them? I remember seeing some airsoft anime on /k/ and the people there saying its not good.

That's the thing… I've never watched any of them. I'm just aware of them. Probably just look up 'gun' or 'airsoft' anime.

Stella Women's Academy, High School Division Class C3 is a cute girl slice of life one. It's got it's moments.

I need to ask /k/ opinion on Assassination Classroom.

Thank you user.

Portlander here, I see those guys on a daily basis, although maybe that's because I'm a poorfag spic who takes public transport. Being a minority in an area doesn't mean the same thing as being non-existent there.

I think a better example would be something like ancient Ireland or something. But even in Secret of Kells, where you had an Asian and black priest, it worked since they were the only guys, and it could be assumed they were pilgrims who traveled far away to get there.

What about the Demoman from Team Forttress 2? He is a black man from Scotland? Are there a lot of black people from Scotland? Not really. So is his presence in the game pandering?

I actually like brown girls, but for some reason, the particular shades of brown tumblrinas pick to draw people in just look gross and unnatural.

I think just making the product good will cause people to not get hung up on the diversity of a group. Was Alice from Superjail pandering? Was the crippled hero from Mother 3 pandering?

But you're right, it has to make sense. But it only has to be plausible, not likely. In Pacific Rim, you got white people, black people, Asian people, etc. But it's a worldwide organization, so it make sense to have people from around the world. Same for Xiaolin Showdown.

I think another problem with this is that these "white numale nerdlingers" are afraid of offending people, so they make any colored folk into perfect mary sues. Mary sues tend to be annoying and hard to like. You can make a colored person a villain without making him a stereotype, like Baxter Stockman.

This is a little too diverse, REMOVE LEAF!

Nope, still says "kung-fu" instead of "gook-speak".

Thank you so much for mentioning this. It pisses me off to no end how they do minorities that are just bland hipsters.

Something even funnier, a story when you follow each side of a conflict, and every side is painted as the good guys.

Dynasty Warriors (the video game) actually did that. No matter what side you pick their goals are noble and justified. Of course noble and justified as in plunging ancient China to continuous war for 3-4 generations.

No. Because he has a describable character and didn't have a "look, look, he's black! We're so diverse guise please give us social media publicity!" presentation, but it was a different time then.
Also, he is a wholly original character and not a blackwash

How about you make them actual real human beings.

Women aren't automatically smarter and better than men. Non-whites aren't automatically more ethical and civilized and intelligent than whites.

Now you got nothing but the basis that a good story can be built upon. And in order to build upon it, you make a good story, i.e. throw all your gender/race/class politics out the fucking window and smash your head on the wall until brain damage runs over your personal agendas and erases them, and then write about something actually interesting.

Also everyone comes from and loves their own respective homelands. If your story takes place in X country, have most of the characters be native to X country instead of magically happenstancing to become a melting pot team of vibrant diversity. If you want to shoehorn in more foreign races, then have your story take place in that location and have local characters from there join in with the characters central to the story. Although if you insist on shoehorning in foreign races, it probably means you forgot about writing a good story first in which case you're a lost cause.

If you love niggers so much, write a story that takes place entirely in Africa. People seem to love taking it up in the ass by brown skinned people, but never want to go to the place they come from or have anything to do with said location, they always have to be brought to white countries instead.

CRIMINAL LACK OF RECOGNITION FOR KND
Hoagie Gilligan is literally the singular most American name in any media ever.

Reminder that the BR character in Xiaolin Showdown was the strongest of them all.

Sounds Canadian to me.

Well then.

Trips checked. Honestly, I like stories like that. Maybe thats what Nick Spencer should've done for his Captain America series to show peoples own different views and why the badguy's think the way they do rather than be cartoon cut outs.

Damn . . . and this is from the 80's ain't it?

And his original design looked more like Grounds keeper Willie so they wanted to get away from that.

i'm not gonna lie to you man i wasn't kidding about the racism shit i don't wanna be blackie's best friend or some shit, i don't wanna pander to minorities or whatever. i just want them to fuck off, that's it. so i don't give a shit about making stuff like this.

longposting like a faggot i see.

Anyway here's how you do diversity correctly: You don't. Now you don't need to longtext my dudes.

It gets even better. In that movie (Bender's Game), she becomes a centaur. That's, like, a monster girl double-whammy. And Amy becomes monster girl too. And they make out.

Bingo. Also worth noting that character diversity should make sense within the show's universe. For example, if your show is set in medieval Europe, it shouldn't feature the whole spectrum of the race rainbow, barring very specific circumstances. A show like Hey Arnold! is a good example of where having a diverse range of characters makes sense, because the setting the show is based off of is also diverse.

This principle applies to all entertainment mediums in general, not just cartoons.

Reddits that way.

wouldn't reddit be the know it tht types out a storm because they think it makes them more right? if anything i would be Holla Forums anyway

naw, that's some premium redditposting right there.

Dont forget his shit grammar and he responded to bait too.

TFF kicks ass, Gary Jules' emo cover sucks shit-covered donkey balls.

Underappreciated post.
And also give the characters last names that are a punny reference to their area of expertise?

And speaking of Centurions two later characters added to the team were "energy specialist" Rex Charger and a "infiltration specialist" named John Thunder (an Apache), wait thunder is loud, how does that help anyone infiltrate? Couldn't they have come up with something more sneaky and Native American sounding?

Also Jake Rockwell's "Wild Weasel" motorcycle weapon system was crazy awesome.

Making loud noises to distract enemy while his friends sneaking in?

In all seriousness I guess they were going for a POWERXTREME version of a native american name. Coincidentally him being there was towards the last half of the show. He was only there for like three or four episodes and then it went back to business as usual for a dozen more episodes.

Also Centurions has the best waifus.

Aren't they bringing them back?

I hope not. I don't want anyone touching good ole' cartoons that keep things simple, straight, and POWERXTREME before we fix the problems in the animation industry. There's not a single person or team I would trust working in animation right now that could bring back the centurions and keep things exactly the same.

What kind of stuff do you usually make?

Depends how willing they are in bringing back Hannah Barbarra cartoons to the big screen
