Okay, Holla Forums, longtime Holla Forums user here with a long post explaining the board's history. I know what you're thinking. "Why would I want your opinion? You're a huge faggot." That may be so, but in order to really know what happened, you had to have actually been there for it.

When Holla Forums started it was meant not merely to antagonize Holla Forums, but as a true free speech alternative to boards like /r/socialism and RevLeft. Those boards had been taken over by a clique of privilege checking liberal feminists who didn't want to talk about the megacorporations sucking the life out of the world and seemed to exist only to cause infighting over terminology and derail discussion, and people wanted something different. Thus Holla Forums was formed, and its user base grew as working-class people became disillusioned with the false meritocracy of capitalist relations of production, and as Holla Forums's moderation became more and more heavy-handed. The board's growth was often said by Holla Forums to be because of recruitment from Reddit (as if they're any better in that regard), but this isn't precisely the case. What happened is that the Reddit moderation eventually got so terrible that some people there left. Unfortunately, when they came to Holla Forums, they didn't shed the Reddit groupthink mentality, as they had no experience with imageboards or individual thinking in general. They saw other newcomers like themselves acting like Reddit, so they thought that was how people there should act. Combine that with the usual array of bots and shills you see on any major political board to augment the voices of the idiot population, and that's how this spiraled into the situation you see there now.

The dumbass shit that I've seen people on that board say defies belief. While the board originally had a considerable number of users who were part of GamerGate, many of the newcomers have swallowed the corporate media line about it hook, line and sinker. Pro-feminist rhetoric and hostility towards gamers, anime fans and socially alienated /r9k/ types has been on the rise there and doesn't show any signs of stopping. I've seen the phrase "STEMlord" become a common occurrence there, and with it the denial of objective reality - not that this has ever stopped certain groups from turning around and claiming to have scientific support immediately after denouncing the entire concept of science. This is just the tip of the iceberg, though.

Aside from the Reddit rapefugees' ideology of unironic Stalin praise that repulses most of the world immediately and thus frustrates efforts to build an international movement, I've seen them sucking off American academia one moment and decrying it for being full of capitalist shills the next. I've seen disingenuous feminists denying that their (now successful) attempts to infiltrate the moderation staff and destroy free speech on Holla Forums exist, which is exactly the same tactic they used when they told the video game community they didn't want to take games away, and telling free speech supporters to stop using feminism as a boogeyman despite the well-documented evidence of their misdeeds. I've seen someone make a poll asking the users whether age of consent laws should exist, which even most people who support the laws being changed would agree with, and then say that agreement with that somehow equates to agreement that it should be 18 so they can pretend to have more support. I've watched people use the typical feminist shaming accusations of "sick fuck" as they make demonstrably false claims that existing US AoC laws are based on even remotely objective or reproducible scientific assessments of cognitive development, as though these stupid fucking cunts have any cognitive development, let alone enough to decide how developed anyone else's mind is. I've seen the new batch of Holla Forums users advocate for everything from the Stasi to black nationalism to censoring manga to fucking alcohol prohibition, all on the same basis that fake "experts" made fake claims of harm and said we need to take freedom away to prevent this harm. Of course, if you disagree with the newfags on anything, that makes you a Nazi ancap who runs innocent people over with cars, even if you know more about socialist economic theory than they do, which isn't a difficult task.

So what's to be done about all this? Well, why not make some threads there and hash out all of this stuff with rational discourse? Oh wait, you can't do that, or your thread will get deleted and you'll get banned. People have complained about this because if you don't let people you disagree with come and make threads asking questions anymore, they won't get those questions answered and they won't convert to leftism, but the mods don't listen. Bottom line: Even as they complain that the corporate media censors them, they're actively encouraging a community that supports censorship while defending the corporate media if the people attacking it happen to be "icky nerds". I think the current Holla Forums mods and /r/socialism mods may very well be exactly the same people, because they act exactly the same way. Ultimately I don't see this situation changing, because there just aren't enough people either on Holla Forums or in the socialist movement as a whole who support freedom of speech to stem the tides of the hordes of Reddit shitters. To them, every community is about virtue signaling and memes. They're there to feel like internet cool kids instead of learning anything, and these dipshits are the majority of socialists. Fuck, they're the majority of every political movement.
