I asked on Holla Forums but didn't get much of a response so I'll ask here. Two unrelated questions.
1. Suppose I wanted to bug out and disappear entirely from my life for a while, would a laptop always be traceable? That is to say, if I didn't reformat it, but I deleted all the social media programs and accounts I previously used, would they still be able to track where I am if I turn it back on?
2. I'm looking for a good digital video camera I can use at night, and preferably find cheaply at a pawn shop as I don't have time to order one off of eBay (though I still may go that route anyway.) The camera would be used to film amateur porn, hopefully in HD. Suggestions?

Your network card (both Ethernet and wifi) has a MAC address that is unique so those would have to be swapped out or faked. MAC addresses aren't sent over the internet but your provider can see it and anyone on your local network can see it.
Windows botnet will know its own. Different 'nuxes and 'nixes have different reporting mechanisms that you'd have to turn off.
Installed commercial software will phone home to check your license.

You need to reformat that laptop and install a new OS. You can use Windows again, you'd be better off from a privacy standpoint with Linux.
You can remove your social stuff, but there's always a risk you forget something and leak your location or who you are.
It also depends on how anonymous you want to be. I would suggest avoiding Windows and using the most generic and most popular Linux distribution you can find (Arch or Ubunutu) if you want to be really anonymous.
If it's just a thing about wanting to make sure people in your life don't contact you, just a reformat with Windows is enough.
Though you could probably try selling your old laptop and getting a new one instead.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Well you'd be best off to reformat that laptop of your and install Qubes (qubes-os.org/) that should handle your privacy and computer needs. Deactivate all your social media accounts and get rid of your old phone, buy a new prepaid cheap phone and communicate through an app called Wikr if you need comms (wickr.com/) advaible on both PC and android. Cancel all your credit cards, use pre-paid debit cards for all transactions or cash. Route all your web traffic through Tor (torproject.org/) and a VPN (protonvpn.com) or a diffrent VPN that choice is yours. I recommend encrypting your Laptop with SHA5 as well. Once all the old data is overwritten there will be nothing for forensics to dig up, make sure you securely shred your data with somthing like bleach bit to overwrite the data with blank data. As for the camera, its not really in the "Cheap range" but its a V good camera I own one. Good luck @OP btw link us some vids when you make them ;^)
