The one thing I've not seen anyone mention, especially not in the comics themselves, is the potential mess you'd have if someone who has superpowers actually did go around supporting a candidate. I mean, superpowers would probably change the entire face of democracy. People already get pissed remembering the Klan and the Panthers hanging around booths trying to intimidate people. Imagine the world where superpowered individuals who live their lives based on vigilantism and coercion through force actually got together and backed a party.

Like, would anyone who can see through walls/read minds be legally required to not look at people while they poll? Superheros look cool standing in front of a flag, sure. But they fit so very poorly into actual democracy.

Which is another huge reason why superhero comics make sense as apolitical stories.

Take Captain America or Superman for example, they're basically symbols for hope and the greatness America can achieve, and then it's up to every person to interpret what they stand for on their own.

By not shoving in the reader's face who Cap or Superman votes for, it gives the reader a stronger sense of connection to the character, because the justice they stand for is easy to support. Once you explore deeper politics (especially the propaganda they're currently pushing) it becomes a lot more divisive.

Also, above all, kids think politics are boring and kids are (supposed to be) the target audience.

Saying everyone should vote is actually a bit naive.

It assumes that people would research anything or have some knowledge about what is best to vote for. As it is, it's the people that feel driven to follow elections that bother voting. Which means those voting will at least have some basic understanding of what is being voted in.

If everyone voted no matter what, we'd have an even worse electoral process as it'd become almost entirely dictated by what the media says.

None of what you says changes anything. Your assumption that things would be worse would imply that the people who do vote are on the whole better informed and no as easily swayed by the media, which is either wrong or at least unproven. I'd say the vast majority of people are informed on one or two of the things they are voting on, and the rest of the stuff like new bills, treasurers and whatever they have no fucking clue about, and that's probably me being generous.

And while it's true that the media is biased (pretty much every news site or station has a clear bias one way or the other), lower voter turn out is not a countermeasure to that.

I've seen some people lately argue that voting should be made mandatory and compulsory. Presumably they figure that everyone who doesn't currently care enough to vote can be easily swayed to their side in greater than 50-50 numbers and then they'll never lose again.
