Just use Windows if you like it so much

Believe it or not, there is still hardware and software that's not properly supported by Linux, and not everyone who needs to use it is happy with Windows.

...

WEW

I dislike a lot of things about Windows, but some of the things I dislike the most are the spyware and that it's proprietary. Those are not things ReactOS tries to clone.

And like I said, you don't always have a choice. Sometimes you need to use Windows for compatibility, and then Linux or whatever your preferred OS is just isn't an option.

And so you use something that doesn't get rid of either of those things.

ReactOS isn't proprietary and doesn't have spyware baked in, does it?

It must hurt, being this retarded.

It's a small step but it's nice to see they have been making progress at a steady pace for the last year or so.

But ReactOS isn't proprietary and doesn't come packaged with spyware. Why do you feel the need to shit up a thread when you realize you're wrong? How about you close out of Microsoft Edge and call it a night?

This. For awhile, I thought they'd given up. Seems to have some steam behind it now.

I admire their effort, also because their work probably also furthers Wine development somewhat (which I'm more interested in tbh).

Can you run current Windows programs with it? I mean, considering there's a bit more than Win32 and GDI going on (what happens if you try to install, say, Photoshop, Word, Visual Studio, etc?)

It runs plenty of programs but it's incompatible with modern hardware like all Linux shitboxes.

R-OS is at the same stage XP was in 2001.

...

...

that was Win98
folder browser was IE by default. even your wallpaper could be IE

because Reactos is basically just Wine with it's own shitty kernel and desktop environment

once they implement windows drivers support it will be a smooth sail from there

That was one of the more useful features KDE ripped off from windows

From what I remember reading, they already wrote something to support NT6 kernel stuff, I think.

Or maybe that was NT6 for XP, I can't remember.

bump

You do realize the reason why this situation exists? You have chosen to be in this situation because you have chosen to subject yourself to proprietary software. Had you invested into free software, you could have invested into perfecting what you need.

I don't use Windows, and I don't rely on any proprietary software apart from graphics and network firmware and my BIOS.

But some people do, for reasons that are out of their control. If you constantly need to cooperate with people using proprietary software and formats that are not properly supported by free software then you don't get much of a choice.

can I install this in my laptop yet and just werk?
Last I tried the installer doesn't work at all!

^what's with the massive influx of redditcucks in here? off to reddit with you. we don't give karma and gold so kindly fuck off

You're a cuck!

I think they're cuckchan kids. They probably came over with Holla Forums. They generally treat Holla Forums like it's 4/v/, Holla Forums like it's 4/g/, and Holla Forums like it's 4/b/. They're basically cancer and shitposting/circlejerking in lieu of any constructive posts.

I like it. I donated 5 dolans.

I ran it in VirtualBox and I was able to install it and boot to a desktop in under a minute. This will be a fantastic replacement for Wangblows.

You mean Service Pack 2. Service Pack 3 didn't do a fucking thing to make XP better--in fact it actually removed a certain functionality.

Will it ever be possible to run X11 desktop environments/window managers in ReactOS? That would be the really big allure to me.

Security updates

You can run X11 server systems and desktop environments on Windows right now. Those servers should be trivial to run on ReactOS.

It's not Linux.

Congratulations. You're angry. Now what?

You can use PuTTY and VcXsrv (better than xming, still FOSS) on ReactOS just like you can on Windows.

It won't be usable until I can install bonzi buddy on it. At the moment, it can't install the necessary runtimes.

So this shit doesn't implement Windows drivers yet? That's literally the only advantage I can see it ever having for using it over Wine on a GNU/Linux install.

ah, the age-old tactic of declaring something doesn't work on the internet to bait the gullible into giving you answers.

Nobody respond to that post. Let him wallow in his own angst.

If you are trying to install via USB, you can't. You must use a disk.

What are you on about? Fuck you, man, it's a legitimate concern.

According to the ReactOS wiki they already have windows driver support:

This. Holla Forums has been bringing a lot of retards over who are determined to be halfchan cancer.

The NT kernel is superior to Unix-like kernels.

[citation needed]

I hate Microsoft, so i wish all the better to this project.

reactos is a wonderful project

if glendix openindiana and plan 9 were in a similar place id be very happy

Is the ACPI implementation stable?
I worry that my laptop mobo could burn by using underdeveloped OS at very early stage.

Was anyone able to run or install the OS yet? As far as I know it's just VM preview. When I try running the installer, I always get redirected to PXE boot and gave up installing it before.

NT is built on top of linux kernel with gcc
You'll find out once the y2k38 bug comes.

...

ACPI isn't necessarily stable for Windows and all the engineering resources are stacked towards supporting Microsoft and Windows. That being said, I don't actually know about ReactOS's ACPI status. It's shouldn't be too difficult to reimplement the details of how Windows implements ACPI.

Don't bare metal install ReactOS on your only computer!

Yes.

that's not saying much...

ReactOS beta when?

Are you retarded or what?

Work pretty good in an asus h81m-a, without sound.

why the fuck are you installing this on a real hardware? wait until beta or you'll lose your files

Tell me how it goes user, I have a few hundred computers running on the h81m platform, all they have to do is open up a point of sale app.

Maybe I won't even need to upgrade from xp if ReactOS keeps this up.

it works only on some ancient machines... i tried to install it recently but it crashes even in installer... i cannot get it to work, but.. it works in live mode...

...

...

I want someone to do this for os/2, splicing in open implementations of dos and Windows for the compatibility layers.
youtube.com/watch?v=mmxabyk0S2M

It would be nice if they just made OS/2 open source but I doubt they will because there's probably Microsoft licensed code in their floating around for Windows compatibility.

Back to >>>Holla Forums with you

See, that's how you prove you're Holla Forums.

I swear only Holla Forums tries to shepherd everyone who dislikes them to Holla Forums as if the rest of Holla Forums is all Holla Forums's personal shitting ground.

How about you fuck back off to >>>Holla Forums mate.

can I get os/2 somewhere to try it in a VM?

winworldpc.com/library

thank

I wish all pols would fuck off to their own polchan or something. Their autism is getting more and more annoying.

no, the majority has, but not necessarily him.

Nope.

why?

Just fuck off leftycucks.

He can very well choose to invest his money into developing the free software he needs. He refuses to do this instead, he'd prefer to act as a servant to the masters of proprietary software.

its open source and written in c and c++
you can help update it if you can code.

youtube.com/watch?v=yeiRMYm5WT0

games
youtube.com/watch?v=niJqXANPBQg

it supports windows drivers, in fact they use official windows drivers to make it 100% compatible.

even microsoft's own employee's are using reactos to understand how their own os works.

youtube.com/watch?v=fIX1O3qWYI0

reactos was developed to point this issue also, it's very lightweight and only needs bare minimum 96mb ram. there are many machines today that get licence from windows just to run something as simple as a ticket booth to a movie theater and such.

i wouldn't use it for this until it's maybe in beta.

Holla Forums gets all their news from CNN.

I thought Holla Forums loved Russia... :'^)

Holla Forums here, I get my news from Gearóid Ó Colmáin, Katehon, and Press TV, so fuck off

why not just use virtual box with a copy of win xp or just install xp on an old hard drive?
do you people just like the idea of linux and windows fucking and making an autistic spawn?

No one cares, go back to reddit

...

I think that we can all agree that leftypol are a bunch of champagne socialists who will be gassed by the proletariat as soon as possible.
