Video production isn't that hard now. If you're some sort of trustfund babby or from a relatively "middle class" background you can have professional-level equipment for less than $5000 even if you buy everything new. Video editing isn't too hard either because as long as you have your equipment calibrated right from there it's just dragging and dropping video segments until everything's the way you want it.

That said, having professional production equipment won't magically make your film or editing professional looking. If his videos look amazing right out of the gate and he's never done anything before, then I would suspect either someone is helping him unless he's some sort of video-production wunderkind.
