Lemaker did something like that with the Guitar. it's a SoC that plugs into a main board like a stick of RAM into a laptop. The idea is that you can swap the SoC with a better one for better performance. No idea if they actually made a better SoC for it though, and Lemaker aren't as good as other Chinese manufacturers. The Pyra guys are planning on something similar for their handheld, but that hasn't been released yet AFAIK.
