that there are tons of data gathering threads disguised as "I'm bored so whats all your info".

This is a link to a thread where the Holla Forums mods deleted a huge portion of the OP information. I would like to believe that it was a harmless joke. just got to wizchan from Holla Forums and I'm sure that it was completely necessary for the mod to move the thread I created from /wiz/ to Holla Forums because I was wrong to put important information that everyone should have clear and obvious access to in /general/ when in fact it actually belonged in /general-er/. that makes sense. but that's not all!

It is called "Federal Investigation", OP. This used to be a known website where people would distribute and share illegal content. Control of the site was taken by the FBI (a bit less subtly than they would have liked), and while Jim owns 8ch and Dysnumberbatch owns this board, actual control of content is almost completely in the hands of the Federal Government of the USA. They are using it to build profiles on known people of interest as well as to identify previously unknown people of interest. These data mining threads are part of that process. How this is coming as "news" to you is frankly a mystery to me. It has been going on at chans for decades now, and at 8ch specifically since HotWheels left. It is NOT a new thing. I don't know how you missed it, but apparently you did. The recent increase in them at this particular site is merely due to the fact that this is merely the stage they are at in the process at 8ch. Eventually (6 more months or so) they will move along to the next stage which is to do what they did to 4chan a year or so ago. The profiling will be done, and they will move on to sanitization and conversion of 8ch to a mainstream normie website.
So yes. Of course they are profiling us. This is a thing we know. Why it surprises you to find this out is, again, somewhat of a puzzler to me. Have you really been paying that little attention to the actions of the US Government for the last 75 years?

How advanced are the bots? Is it possible for an OP to post a thread that is unseen (or partially) to the entire board but is seeded by a few bot posts? Things get posted, shadowbanned, or the replies simply switch overnight on the same thread. This was happening 2 years ago as well, there was a thread of about 80 replies… It died down and all threads speaking of it got slided immediately.
