Haven't there been cases of parrots committing suicide? I think I read something like that. A lot of birds are actually really smart, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had complex emotions. I'm pretty sure dolphins can be depressed too.

Not that I know of, but the general consensus is no, maybe a species or two but overall no. Humans are the only animal again to my knowledge that commits suicide because for humans existing =/= living. I remember watching a doco years ago about this guy studying ants.
They apparently have a gene that forces them to sacrifice one of their own in order for the rest of the colony to get to safety.
If there is a swarm of something that is eating/killing them a few will lead the swarm of the other insects away from the nest and let them eat them which will give the rest of the colony time to close the nest.
I think what the guy was trying to prove was how likely humans are to sacrifice themselves in order to save their own.
I have a feeling he was also trying to prove that AIDS was man made and he killed himself with a pair of scissors to his throat (if that helps someone else fill in the blanks as to what I'm on about) but I might be mixing stories up.
It's not really suicide, it's more sacrifice but I think it relates.
