Osteoporosis and cancer risks skyrocket after menopause, and about 10 years after, heart attack and stroke risks skyrocket too. It reminds me of a novel series called The Gap Cycle, which started out as a writing exercise but turned into a sci fi epic about ethics and governance in deep space.
