Introducing /leftyb/ and Questions of the Future of Leftism on Holla Forums

NEW BOARD
>>>/leftyb/

Since browsing Holla Forums for a while I've grown to like the atmosphere here in addition to the politics. Holla Forums is bursting at the seams with polyps right now, and it's nice to have a safe space once in a while. Others may feel the same. This board is great for politics, but there are all kinds of other things lefties might want to discuss. So go check out >>>/leftyb/. Make a thread about something you like. Reply to the other threads. Complain about lack of content or bad moderation or whatever you like.

Also, with the rise of Holla Forums there's an important question that needs asking… where does leftism go from here (I mean on Holla Forums, let's not get carried away now)? Sure we can use any boards we like and counter fascist dialogue if we're really bothered to. But Holla Forums is still a top-down system, and board owners get to control the content they allow. Since we can't fully democratize imageboards (or can we? that'd be neat), why not grow a leftist community on this site to combat the creep of Holla Forums?

No disrespect, board owner. If anything I'd like to help reduce off-topic shit.

...

We've gone from a board of ~350 people to ~400, within four months, on an ailing site with utterly incompetent mods that is still dominated by fascists just like every other imageboard. I wouldn't call that any sign of any kind of rise of anything. Things are basically the same around here aside from how much more of a pain in the ass it's getting to post here. I mean really, how long have you been here? There's no creep of Holla Forums; Holla Forums is very well firmly entrenched in this site to that point that it may as well be a reactionary stronghold. In everything but name, this place is basically the headquarters of the alt-right.

Not only that, but Holla Forums is on its last legs. After the whole debacle with Josh, and as this site continues to run worse by the day and continues to have more holes in its security revealed, it'll only be a matter of time before the amount of users on this site drops low enough that it goes under. And for the better, in my opinion. This place is the swan song of imageboard culture.

And really, Holla Forums is only that special on Holla Forums because Holla Forums is just regular shit, while the rest of Holla Forums is noxious explosive bloody diarrhea. And because there isn't much space on imageboards in general anymore for people who aren't right-wing fuckheads to chill and maybe talk about some actual leftist theory - though that doesn't happen very oftenon here so much as people continue to waste their time trying to debate bait threads, among other things.

I mean I like the idea of a /leftyb/, to be perfectly honest, but come on fam. Get real.

Is the number of users actually dropping though? You said yourself, we have gained, even if its not much.

Guess I should have been clear about this. When I was talking about the creep of Holla Forums I was talking about everywhere.

TBH I don't disagree with you, but Holla Forums could keep going, and if it dies what have we lost by having a shitpost board for lefties? Nothing. The site's not doomed though. 4chan went through all kinds of shit before it finally died inside, and that was because moot sold out. Hotwheels may be incompetent (so was moot) but at least he's nowhere near as big a faggot and his site is built on better principles.

AFAIK Holla Forums and Holla Forums have both lost large amounts of posters. And it's only going to get worse if the mods don't get their shit together. What we've gained may be just people from within Holla Forums, or a couple redditors and newfags.

You also need to take probably a fourth of the userbase from Holla Forums to account for Holla Forums

I'm not against having a /leftyb/. I'm saying to keep your expectations in check. At the end of the day, we're just an insignificant board on a site dominated by reactionaries who keep us around to troll us, within a broader community of reactionaries.

And tepidcycle has basically abandoned the site at this point. He has pretty much no correspondence with the community and seems to pretty much be content to sit back while this site falls apart. But yes, you're right, among the utter faggotry that is the imageboard community at large, he's probably still the best we've got. But once Jim decides that shitwheels is a liability, he'll can his ass.

And if he doesn't do something to fix this shit site, I can't see Holla Forums lasting into 2017. Unlike when 4chan was founded, imageboard culture has already proliferated enough into a much larger and more gentrified internet that people will flock to new imageboards at the slightest sign of drama. We saw this happen with 4chan, and if hotman got fired the same thing would happen here - only this time, people would go to masterchan, endchan, freech, and whatever other shitty imageboards there are out there that people are shilling for. Hell, a lot of people would just go back to 4chan. Unlike 2002, there are a lot of other options than Holla Forums to choose from, and a much more fickle userbase.

Besides, at the end of the day, Holla Forums was founded on lolbertarian principles.

So you want to take discussion of 'off topic' leftist things away from Holla Forums and put them on your board?

I can only see that harming the user base here. It would be better to keep Holla Forums as full of interesting lefty topics as possible, since that would encourage people to use it more.

As with lumping various anti-capitalist ideologies into "leftist", the quality of discussion only suffers from lumping everything together onto one board. Unfortunately, it's also really hard to neatly divide things up when we're using user-created boards on a site that is already incredibly impacted in the number of userboards it has. So, you do have a point.

Gee, if only there was an imageboard specifically for leftist discussion that also ran far better software than Holla Forums…

I'm pretty sure this board is supposed to be for leftist politics. /leftyb/ covers anything else. I would discourage people to post about politics there when they could come here instead.

They are deader than we are and they don't have the same freedumb as this site. Let me know when you can create your own board or something a bit more democratized.

They're only ded because NO ONE FUCKING POSTS ON THEM.

Gimme a break. Userboards on imageboards have already proven on Holla Forums to be a failure, and it'd make no fucking sense in any event to have userboards on something like Bunkerchan. That'd be like if Holla Forums had the option to make sub-boards or something.

Are you fucking slow or something? You realize they can see this thread right? They can very easily click that link and move their operations there.

Which they can't do on this board why????

Only a NEET loser could have enough time to get involved in cyber wars like this.

I wish we could gulag these cunts

If cripplechan goes down, do we move to bunkerchan?

kys FAST!

Because it's a board for politics. If people want to discuss unrelated stuff with comrades, that's off-topic for the board. The idea is to keep it getting clogged up.

It's not supposed to be something super serious. It's just a board to talk about shit.

Kind of funny that you bitch about Holla Forums "operations" while also saying only losers care about cyber wars.

Yes, and communism in Russia, China, etc has proven to be a failure. :^)

why

That'd be like if Holla Forums had the option to make sub-boards or something.
That's basically what this thread is about. When a board gets bigger the community tends to split off into different interests.

So you want to split the userbase in half. Good thinking there.

So stop being inconsistent then. Is it a board for some stupid internet cyberwar on an anime imageboard or just an off-topic board for Holla Forums. You're inconsistent.

Where did I bitch about Holla Forums operations? I've just accepted that we can't escape them. It's not even a big deal. We're online. Nothing posted on this board will ever result in anything of note in the real world.

Isn't it preferable if we stay united. If we split off further we we'll be made more vulnerable. We're in need of a strong base, right? Also, although all of this predominantly exists online, sentiments and other associated valued features are capable of leaking into the outside world.

There's nothing to stop people from posting on more than one board. There's nothing to stop people from posting on more than one site. It's just a place to put stuff that doesn't belong here.

OK I'll be consistent then: it's a place for lefties to shoot the shit. Lefties having places to socialize increases solidarity and helps shift human dialogue in general toward the left. The systemic effect is to reduce the power of the fascists, even if by a small amount. In the same way people turn to fascism because liberal idpol pisses them off, as people get sick of nazis here, some will move to the lefty boards.

In what sense? They can post here but the board's pretty resistant to their bullshit.

Eh. I disagree about online activity having no effect but the real point here is that you'd get fewer polyps on /leftyb/ than your average board here.

Again, people can post on more than one board. This board is for politics. /leftyb/ is meant for off-topic discussion. It's not for discussing theory or other stuff directly related to leftism. It's a place for leftists to talk about whatever they want. Like Holla Forums but designated for leftists.

That's what I'm saying

If you want to think like that by all means do. The fact is though the world is moving at an alarming rate. If you think a board of 300-400 people will make any significant dent on this world well you're very optimistic. I see this board merely as a discussion board for leftist theory. We don't actually get anything done and I think that's the best way to look at it as we'd get very depressed and frustrated. We're merely analyzing the death of the world here, not actively trying to prevent it.

Why?

It's too much effort though. You have to assume that people are the laziest, stupidest people in existence. Because they are. If you keep everything centralized you make it easier for them.

They will always filter through one way or another.

It seems to work here more or less. I'm not saying no polyps, just fewer.

Conversely, if you have less off-topic stuff lazy people have an easier time sorting through. And if there's /leftyb/ the people who want to shoot the shit can go there for a more casual experience.

D&C Shill go home

I have a feeling this OP is Holla Forums Cointelpro

I really wish some of you fags would stop trying to push this Safe Space shit. We don't need lefty-themed anythings except a politics board.

It's abundantly clear that Acid Man is a partisan piece of shit at this point. How long did you get banned for anyway?

Holla Forums is not on its last legs but it is in a serious crisis as it doesn't work reliability and it will lose users the longer it is in this half ass state.

So is the site shifting leftward?

Why not just have one board? Then you wouldn't get people misusing either board, and less people would be turned away.

There are already plenty of boards about that cover the 'everything else' viewpoint. For example it's dumb to start a /leftyv/ board to have leftists discuss video games when they could just do it on Holla Forums. OR Holla Forums. Take this approach for another sort of topic.

Don't even think about complaining that other boards are not safe spaces for leftists. Post there and make them such if it hurts you.

This is a very slow board with not that many users. It's not getting clogged up.

Lefties having places to socialize increases solidarity and helps shift human dialogue in general toward the left.
LEFTIES ARE HUMANS AND CAN SOCIALISE WITH HUMANS. In fact making sure you only talk to people in leftist circles drops the chances of other people learning about your politics. If you want to make leftism more popular on 8 chan by socialising, then go and post on the top boards that already exist rather than make a new one that nobody will visit.

On the other hand we do need an alternative to Mark/v/ where the owner isn't a partisan piece of shit Holla Forumstard who lets off-topic crap run all over the board while also deleting threads about topics he doesn't agree with, such as a thread asking if capitalism is responsible for the video game industry being such crap right now and perhaps what an industry dominated by coop developers/publishers might look like (this one happened last week).

There's always /svidya/~

Holla Forumsyps are either burning out or migrating back to Holla Forums i think

...

WTF will we be doing in leftyb that we are not doing here?

It's like the creation of leftyweeb.

WHY????

We are small enough to be able to discuss ANYTHING!

It's not that they're safe spaces for leftists so much as that leftism will get censure on other boards. In that sense I guess it is a safe space, but that's the original intent of the idea, before it turned into a synonym for echo chamber. If you don't get to talk about leftism on other boards because the mods are faggots, how is it a problem to make a board where you can?

bump
guys, please get on it

Unique posters yea, but the number of lurkers is porbably a lot higher

Did you stop to think before making your post that for however many lurkers there are on Holla Forums, there are certainly far more on Holla Forums, thus making this point completely irrelevant?

That was actually just me airplane moding my phone.

come on faggots join in

>>>/leftyb/

Holla Forums is always the main board
/leftyb/ is the place to make low effort threads and bantering and memeing around

Maybe we're not big enough yet to be stressing this. When we got big enough that shitposts flood this main board and dilute serious discussions, than yes. In the meantime we should concentrate more here or else be more vulnerable. I know people can be using both, but I'm making the assumption that people will be too lazy and pick one most of the time.

I forget where I read it but supposedly a good rule of thumb for online communities is 10 lurkers for every poster.
