DCAU & DC Animated General

Name on tin, name on thread.

Since impromtu DCAU general got eaten in the faggotstorm, it's time for a proper one.

This is the universe that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm created, the one which has never seen a true or even worthy successor. Discuss.

The Project Cadmus stuff tied so many threads of the universe together, that it was honestly surprising just how much of it was thought up after the fact. I think it all comes down to writers working together and respecting eachother's work, so that when the world grew bigger, it still made sense.

>Doomsday Sanction featured Dr. Milo from two Season 2 BTAS episodes (Cat Scratch Fever and Moon of the Wolf) and talked about the work of Dr. Langstrom aka Man-Bat from episode 1 of BTAS
The continuity porn in the JLU was amazing.

How come we get a cast reunion for JL: Doom and Injustice but not this actually good thing that is (mostly) in continuity

Cadmus even does a good job explaining the various conspiracies and secret projects found throughout the first two shows.

I actually enjoyed JL:D a fair bit in spite of the pretty dumb premise - it was certainly better than Tower of Babel was.

So were these guys ever bros in the comics, or was that something that sorta happened during the show? Because these guys were great.

It's weird knowing that this was originally intended to bridge the gap between JL and JLU.

They were a part of the Seven Soliders of Victory together. Their current incarnations have never met though, given Shining Knight's gender change and Vigilante being modernized. The most recent appearance featuring their classic versions were in the Convergence: World's Finest 2-issue mini.

After reading it, Tower of Babel had a bit too much worked into it. Still fun, though.

…You know what, now I want to see how DCAU Diana would react to that plot, being on the receiving end of Bruce's plan.

It would probably be like Starcrossed. In Starcrossed GL didn't vote because he was in love with Shayera and, if it was DCAU Wonder Woman she probably wouldn't vote because she's in love with Batman

Incidentally Starcrossed, in of itself, is a better Justice League movie than Warners could ever make in live action

I can see that.

I can also see Bruce trying to shut everyone out after the fact, especially Diana. Now I'm imagining her battering down Wayne Manor's door in a fit of frustration.

It's also a better Tower of Babel than Tower of Babel (or JL:D)…

Refresh me, what were Doom's problems?

Also…

legaciesdcau.com/issues/archive/index.htm

What autism is this?

Not him, but I didn't like the style. Also, making it Vandal Savage who stole Batman's plans instead of Ra's made it a lot less personal than the original

Autism done with DC's blessing, apparently.

Did they at least watch the show first for these or is it like the Batman Beyond comic?

As far as I know, the show was watched.

…Wait, what happened in the BB comic?

I made a thing

You know, that reminds me of what happened to the DCAU in the comics. Like Bats sleeping with Barbara (hence why Dick hated Bruce so much), Diana winding up with Justice Lord Superman (there's some BS story there)

Behold..the closest thing we got to a DCAU version of the JSA.

Fuck..I forgot to link it. It's 4 in the morning. Brain's not working at full capacity.

Was he really Justice Lord Superman or just Future Superman?

Justice Lord Superman. If I recall, Diana went to the Justice Lord universe, falls for Lord Batman, got married but Lord Wonder Woman murdered Lord Batman and Diana snapped her neck and had to marry Lord Superman and got a kid named Zod.

…I only knew that she ended up with Lord Batman. Fucking dammit, what follows makes no sense.

Video unrelated. Never saw this doc before.

What the fuck? Who wrote that shit?

Some guy named Kyle Higgins.

'Nuff Said

LET JUSTICE PREVAIL!

Apparently not for DCAU fans.

What's everyone think of this?

Only real criticism is that I can't help but feel the new characters in season 2 were overshadowed completely by the returning cast and none of their full potential was ever met. Its even more jarring that each character in season 1 got multiple episodes to develop and define them, whilst the new cast got barely an episode each. Hell Beast Boy only got a 40 second flash back and was summarily dropped if I recall correct. Only Blue Beetle and Impulse really got a good chunk of screen time.

It stole it's name from a much better comic.

Yeah, it felt like so much was missing after the time skip because most of the new cast barely got time to shine. Still, the show just got better as it went on, especially after the rocky start from episode 3-7 (where I hated Wally and M'Gann). Here's hoping for that 3rd season.

Once this gets to about 1 minute in, what does it sound like she's saying to you?

Tempered waifubait.

Well, this:

Bruce banging Babs came from the show, everything else they've done just seems fucking stupid. Not that I read them, the plot synopses are enough to piss me off.

The irony is that the Teen Titans show in many ways better captured the spirit of Young Justice than the actual Young Justice show. They even got Peter David to do early development work for it.

...

Man that comic was amazing. The first villain was a catlady with big boobs, and they had a magical sentient quad motorcycle.

I've never seen such a blatant example of straw-maning in my entire life.

Considering they survived every mission, I don't think YJ Batman knows what he is doing.

how do you guys feel about Bruce dating Diana in Justice League?

I noticed that too. It always felt weird how the tone of the Teen titans cartoon felt more similar to the young justice comic than the old teen titans comic by Marv Wolfman. Honestly I think you could say the same vice versa with the Young Justice Cartoon and Teen titans comic.

Mighty Endowed, was it?

The best pairing involving Bats besides him and Selina.

I honestly hated that whole wordplay thing with Robin. It felt forced and unfunny. However I do think he got better in season 2 when he became nightwing. Hell he actually did a better job as Nightwing than as Robin.

Yeah I think that was her name.

I think we did a story time on this a while ago.

It was the only first three issues and then it slid off the board.

Think you can bring it out again?

I'm not the original guy who did it. I did do Storytimes before including the rest of PG run; My first storytime was Teen Titans EO

But you're in luck mate. I have the first twenty issues. Give me some time to save that shit to a folder and I can do a nice proper storytime since that faggot purged this place.

Alright let's dump what I have so far.

Young Justice ISSUE 0

...

...

...

...

...

Young Justice Issue 1

...

...

...

...

Issue 2

...

...

...

...

By the way, that payoff from issue 2 is going to take awhile to come out but when it does, wew.

Alright issue 3

That magic remind me of the techno magic that was in Hellblazer.

Robin is so straight-laced he's like Detective Friday as a 14 year old.

...

...

ISSUE 4

Man they try to set up Harm as Prometheus.

...

...

...

Issue 5

...

...

...

Gotta give it to the dad; he's probably the one comic character in DC that just said, fuck it and shot the little bastard.

Sure, he comes back from the dead but credit where's its due.

And the mom leaves the dad to to do the dirty work.

Issue six

...

...

...

Alright this is how much I can dump. I'm getting rid of the folders and starting with issue seven making a nice fresh one to remove clutter. If this was my thread I would had waited till I had everything together but I don't have the luxury at the moment.

Subtle nod at Hawkman's convoluted origins.

...

Arrivederci catboobs.

Wasn't expecting Supes (Connor?) to be the most psyched.

Also, hi Sphere-cycle.

You know..this Young Justice stuff is a lot of fun. The comics I mean.

Oh man, you have no idea. Kon-el is easily the horniest motherfucker on that team. Mind you, this makes sense for all three.

Always love the Kon-el era of Superboy before Geoff Johns gotten his greasy fucking fingers on him and turned him into Lex and Clark's hatesex child. He had more spirit.

Yeah, what happened to Kon? He went from the fun loving guy..to Emo McEmoson?

Huh. So the show Kon swapped out his personality and traded out the horndog to Impulse.

…Hoo boy. That romance arc with M'gann would've started off a lot faster.

This is all excellent and a great read, but I think you'll need a dedicated thread for this storytime.

Peter David's Young Justice is best Young Justice.
You see the difference between this and the shit we get these days? Not even his best work, but he fucking understands story structure. None of this whole issues where nothing happens, inconsistent characterisations, forgotten plotlines, obvious making-it-up-as-you-go-along.
Say what you want about Peter David being a poor man's Harlan Ellison, he was the last real writer the Big Two had. Everyone since then is a pumped-up fanfic writer.

Yeah..I'm reading through his Young Justice run and I must say, this is how comics should be. Seriously, name one series where the villain threatens the world…and offers cookies for the heroes?

...

I loved this story time. This was great. Wish comics were still like this.

God bless you user.

What you did was rape m'gann. You RAPED conner

Honk Honk

Alright let's continue on this wild ride.

I agree but I already started here. Too much of an hassle to switch things That and I deleted the folders already

Don't trip. Wonder Girl went from pretty cool girl to a raging bitch under Johns's pen. That's pretty much the only teenage girl he can write since S.T.A.R.S and Stripes

I'm constantly surprised by people attraction to this chick when's the joke is her tits are always covered up.

No problemo.

Anyway, before I continue I should stress a few things

One, we're going to cover secret files which was mentioned in Young Justice issue 4.

Two, we're going stop at issue 19 because that's where Young Justice Sins of Youth Crossover happened; That's the event where the ages were switched for the adult and juvenile heroes. It's pretty good(Especially with the Titans) but I just spent the last five hours rearranging comics and I'm not eager to go do ten more in a crossover event.

I'm clarifying, I am doing the sins of youth arc. I'm just devoting time to track down the whole shebang.

After sins of youth that should cover crossovers until Our Worlds at war. My plan is to also covers the specials like the 80 pages giant, The Spyboy crossover and finally I want to end the series with the first team up of Young Justice and its laugh: World without Grown-ups and the Titans/Young Justice Graduation day.

After that, we should be done.

Young Justice Secret files

...

...

...

...

...

Oh look, Mighty Endowed.

Holy shit, that is some eighties hair on Cassie.

and we're done on Secret Files, well until Sins of Youth does their own version.

ISSUE SEVEN

In which the team has a camping trip. The Young Justice Tv show tie-in comic had their own camp-out issue and this issue is actually a reference to the Tales of the Teen Titans series where the Titans explains their origins to one another over a camping trip.

The Titans book had another one….where they were on a deserted island, it was raining and everyone was in a foul mood.

So basically this is titty jokes the character?

Once again, All bow down to Nightwing.

Pretty much.

Back during this series Batman was an Urban Legend and man, did the Bat-writers give the YJ writers shit on it.

...

A bit too cavalier for teenagers. They'd probably be more like webm related

I find it funny that half the team want to retire. Tim even wanted to Retire from being Robin when's the job done.

That poor dumb bastard.

If you look carefully there are a SHIT-load of south-park references. Next to the simpsons, Buffy the vampire slayer, later in the series there are Pokemon-wannabes as well.

Issue 8

In which the Psyba-rats, a bunch of bloondlines jackasses tries to break into the Mountain under a mysterious contractor.

Later on in the Hitman series, it was revealed most of the Bloodline "heroes" died a year after they gained their abilities one way or the other.

I like to imagine that the contractor killed them. Oh, and Robin is the only character that dealt with them before.

I do admit the tv guy is pretty cool.

...

...

Trolling Blockbuster. The balls on these kids.

If you look back in issue seven you can see a thugee in the tent where the girls were sleeping.

Those little bastards were planning this since the start.

...

...

...

...

ISSUE TEN WEW

If there is one thing that people remember in Young Justice it's this issue.

...

...

Holy shit. This may have been lighter than most DC books put out at the same but there was some scary shit in there.

Heads up. I had to snatch the next issue off of Kisscomics Because Readcomics.com is a fucking retarded name

So the next issue have their water mark. I'm very sorry.

...

...

...

...

FUCK CAPTCHA

...

...

...

...

...

I snipped the Supergirl book in order for the plot to keep going.

Man, it looks like Demon Young Justice is ready to drag Supergirl into a giant orgy,

Course that just means this issue is dreadfully short.

ISSUE 14: SUPER ANGEL

I meant 13 damnit

...

...

Super boy looks like Dio in that last panel, just give him blonde hair

...

Things go to hell, even more.

And once again, it looks like Supergirl is getting fucked on the cover

...

RIP Gene Wilder.

...

...

...

Last we heard, Harm was killed by his father, who had some decency to aim for the head afterwards.

So he went from being Prometheus to being an typical anime shounen antagonist.

...

...

Secret wasn't having that vague bullshit and gave the supernatural equivalent of flipping the table.

ISSUE 15

and now a very special issue of Young Justice in respond to the Columbine killings.

...

...

...

...

Issue 16

...

One of these pages is damaged, sorry.

...

...

And believe it or not she actually did quit.

Issue 17

Keep eye out on Superboy for the next few issues. He's not himself.

...

(HAIL KALI)

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

And we have to stop it here.

Thanks, I'll work on gathering Sins of Youth.

These days all people seem to post is the latest tumblr-inspired abomination, so it was nice to have a storytime of something entertaining for a change. Thanks user.

Enjoying comics for their quality is just as important, if not moreso, than recognizing the bad in comics.

Take your time user, you're a saint and a fucking half.

Welp, All collected, Both issues and the tie-ins for the comic along with the new origin files.

Night classes are a pain but they get me out of college faster.

After the event I'll start working on issue twenty-thirty. I think you guys will enjoy it them. My goal is to get the issues covered and then work on the specials/Crossovers.

HEllo, is that a prototype of the Javelins I see?

...

...

Moar?

Wait…second pic, second panel. Is that J.Jonah Jameson?

Those were the only two I bothered capturing, but I'm sure I missed a ton.

If you're going gif hunting, you guys should also manage to catch that Season 1 has a lot of animation gafs

The episode where they fight Wonder Woman's dad or whatever has a scene spliced in from The Flash Animated Series as an in-between when Flash goes to attack. It's blink and you'll miss it, but I was fucking floored when I saw it

You mean Hades.

...

can i get a screenshot? I can't find it

I caught a few animation errors when i rewatched. one of the most jarring is in the ones with gorilla grodd. look at the scene where flash & GL are at the lab & you'll see part of his cage goes over something in the foreground

I removed some doubling frames so it looks smoother, but its essentially still the same if you watch it. It's a total 'blink and you miss it' moment.

Someone will probably say it's clever but it just looks lazy to me.

...

...

...

...

You're making me think you could make a drinking game out of how many blows to the head show up per DCAU episode.

I should go back through more episodes looking for more punches.

...

I gotta say, J'onn sucked in the first season. Legitimately the worst person on the team.

This image summarizes him for all of Season 1. I will admit he gets better in Season 2 and the king of shit is taken by Hawkgirl

...

I aprove

...

...

No no, he needs to be clutching his head and screaming more.

Is Lex Luthor part Neanderthal? Why was his forehead so thick?

Big brain.

He's part alien too

...

...

...

...

DCAU women were pretty nice. Though Mercy looks best in full minion gear.

...

I want to fuck and break DCAU Wonder Woman.

Amen.

Bruce Timm's art can look very unflattering from the wrong angle, so the attractiveness of DCAU women is like a roller coaster for me

When they look good, tho, they look really good

The last two filenames…they made me laugh.

Bruce Timm is kinda lazy when it comes to body designs. think about it

Men usually have very similar body types (somehow 6'5" Superman's eye-to-eye with 6'2" Batman) but the women are the worst in this

I get that they're all supposed to look like physically fit supermodels, but give us more types than the hourglass. some pears, spoons, and columns would be decent

although, it made for one great joke. apparently even Batman, world's greatest detective, can't tell women apart without seeing the face and hair

Having not watched any of the DCAU since I was a kid, I've decided to rewatch all of it.

Just finished BB and BB:RotJ. On to BTAS and STAS, then JL/U. Yes, I'm doing it out of order, but I like Terry.

Should I bother with Statik and Zeta? I don't recall liking them, and I know they're not terribly important to the other series.

Bruce Timm didn't design many of them. James Tucker did.

Where was it ever stated that DCAU Superman is 6'5?

Static is okay, although it has some dumb 'very special episodes' that might annoy you.
Don't know about Zeta, though. Never watched it.

pretty sure in one of the crossovers

you mean like the shaq episode?

I was just rewatching JL, and I was wondering what the term is for detailed backgrounds with simple portions that are affected by motion.

Like in the 2nd Nazi ep, there's a bridge, really plainly drawn, with a detailed background, then the bridge gets destroyed.

I know it's limited animation, but I can't find the term. Also, I know there was a show that made fun of this by doing the opposite, in that all the basic backgrounds/objects were stationary and the detailed sections were moved/destroyed.

Got any Livewire or Mxyzptlk's girlfriend?

I heard that it had something to do with animation consistency. I know BTAS had some more diversity in body types but it also had problems when different studios did the animation. They probably wanted to minimize that by giving the studios very strict guidelines for them to follow.

...

...

that and the gun control episode. Its funny because in that episode they say the gun was bad instead of the kid shooter who was bullied and had mental problems. The shooting could've been prevented if the teachers intervened to stop the bullies.

That position is suggestive in so many ways.

UNNF

Well, because user here was not kind enough to actually link it, I went back all the way and counted the 45th image in the thread.
And I do have to agree, Impulse's position is very suggestive. I want to deeply penetrate his tender boypussy

I don't think there's a term, it's just objects that are drawn on cells as opposed to being painted or drawn onto the background.

It's pretty much a staple of cell animation.

More that Timm wanted the universe to have a consistent look. It's also that BTAS had more detail in some areas that could be streamlined with the more simple look of STAS on.

I'm offput that she has no cleavage

I have to admit, I often felt that way about Impulse back in the 90s.

...

Woof-da.

Flat up top, but THIGHS.

tvtropes doesn't seem to know the term tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConspicuouslyLightPatch

I never saw a single ep of Zeta. Static kinda sucks, although the Batman crossover episodes are at least ok. Static solos the entire Justice League in their crossover and he's apparently the most important superhero in the world in the future, so lol at that.

I just rewatched Legends because I remember that being the only genuinely good episode of JL season 1, and honestly, it kinda sucked. Season 1 of JL is just SO much worse than the rest of the DCAU, not counting Static and Zeta.

This DCAU continuation webcomic also sucks: legaciesdcau.com/

And the 'official' Batman Beyond continuation DC did/is doing (?) sounds like ass so basically everything is garbage and doomed and ruined these days.

That pedophile fuck who cancelled it should die in a slow and painful way.

This was the last show i watched on CN. Since that i never was even near that cancer channel.

I liked the show.
Vandal Savage was based.

Its fucking great. Wish 2nd season wasn't so rushed. Hope Netflix picks it up for a third season instead of all these shit comedy specials.

can be said about any cartoon with vandal savage in it

DCAU Supergirl used to make my pee-pee rock hard when I was a kid.

She still does.

...

Yep, she still does it.
Muh dik.

Who's this? What'd he do?
