What Holla Forums fundamentally fails to understand is that Trump was never supposed to be the fix-all solution to the US's problems. He was a starting point, an anchor for a resurgence in Holla Forums-centric ideas in the mainstream political landscape. People, at first, acknowledged that he wasn't going to immediatly undo everything leftists have pushed for in the last decade. "God emporer" was ironic.

What he was was a break from an increasingly alienated Conservative party. He was anything other than the establishment, composed of a bunch of dying old guys who were reaching out to increasingly less and less people. It was obvious that the core Republican followerbase were actually, literally dying off, and that the newer generation were being increasingly pozzed. Holla Forums's memeing was, in a palpable and observable way, the actual only last hope for reaching out to teens and millennials. Plus, Trump made the leftist media angry. He was the highest profile troll since Martin Shkreli, and Holla Forums found they could take advantage of that. So they started making smug Trump Pepes (in coalition with /r9k/ trying to take Pepe back from the normalfags) and doing their usual thing, in part a troll op and in part a last-ditch effort to save a stagnating party. "God emporer" was still ironic.

Then came R/the_donald. Holla Forums decided to create a massive, organized effort to raid Reddit by sockpuppeting and vote manipulating a Trump-centric community to their front page. It's important to note that at that point, the_donald was a raid. Reddit was sucking Bernie's dick pretty hard at that point, so Holla Forums found it appropriate to rustle their jimmies a bit. Also note that in terms of imageboard memes reaching the mainstream, this is typically the path they'd take: 4chan (or in the case of meme magic, Holla Forums) would make them, 4chan-reddit crossposters would take them to places like R/4chan, edgy redditor meme-spouters (R/imgoingtohellforthis, R/cringeanarchy, etc.) that boasted about visiting imageboards despite not actually doing so would pick them up and use them, and they'd fizzle up in use and notoriety before exploding into all the other content aggregation sites at once.

This was the case with the rabid Trump support: It'd starting on 4chan, and with the the_donald raids had reached the 4chan-reddit crossposters. Users on the_donald openly boasted about being from Holla Forums, told others to regroup to the Reddit raid threads there, and used Holla Forums terminology. At that point the movement was still only about trolling leftists and redpilling newcomers. Trump was just another one of Holla Forums's memes. Holla Forums wasn't actually about Trump, he was just the latest trend they'd have latched on to. The problem was the_donald, because it was actually innately Trump-centric, and so everything Trump said had to be supported. As the aforementioned memelords, that didn't actually understand the nature of the subreddit but rather were content with mindlessly swallowing up Trump memes as long as it made them look cool, started flooding in things began to sour. You couldn't acknowledge that Trump was merely the beginning, and that things like calling him the God Emporer and meme magic were hyperbolized in the interest of pushing the last hope for the Right as much as possible.

To the_donald, Trump was literally perfect. This makes sense, as it was the subreddit for his support, not just a general area of political discussion with the inclination of pushing him as much as possible for an ulterior motive. So when Trump decried the fringe outskirts of his fanbase, i.e. Holla Forums itself, the_donald was forced to agree and institute anti-racism and anti-antisemitism rules, while still being driven off of Holla Forums memes that fueled it's shitposting. So Holla Forums, inherently tied to it's own creation (that had ceased to become a straight-out raid on Reddit, but rather a genuine supportbase that displayed raidlike qualities), had to either start to unquestioningly support Trump in an un-factitious manner, or be reminded that Trump was simply supposed to be the beginning. Thus, the divide in the "New Right" and the Alt-Right. What began as supporting Trump because he was the best of all available options, and because his personality made leftists angry, became a circlejerk wherein Holla Forums was the Trump board, not just the board that memed Trump. "God emporer" was unironic.

The election is over and this behavior is still continuing. To focus specifically on 8/pol/, given the populist nature of the moderation (in that it moderates to reflect the suppression of dissent from whatever the majority of the users are thinking), this thing is being artificially dragged on as far as possible. 8/pol/ has become Trump centric in userbase, so the moderation reflects that by banning anything even slightly critical of Trump, and so on ad infinitum. They have the means of exiting this (by going to /new/, to polchan.xyz, or suddenly spontaneously going back to how they were before the Trump craze), but they aren't and they most likely won't- in part because a lot of them are so new they don't remember pre-Trump Holla Forums, and in part because it's so much easier to frame one's shitposts around one central figure rather than seriously engage in discussions about National Socialism. Holla Forums is stuck in limbo.
