Is this a genuinely privacy-respecting alternative to Facebook or yet another front for datamining?
This all makes me feel real warm and fuzzy inside, but can they actually be trusted to uphold this?

I'm really just looking for an excuse not to use it. I fucking hate social media and it really pisses me off that this organization I want to get involved in does just about all their shit over it. They may have presented this alternative to me specifically because of my comment "Facebook is a cancer on privacy rights." I don't want to feel like that asshole when someone is actually trying to accommodate me for once.

Also, is that "Privacy Bill of Rights" even legally binding upon them? Check the ToS and Privacy Policy. When "privacy", "encryption", or "no adverts" is used as marketing or product differentiation NOTHING good can come of it.

No it isn't from the public facing side, but the fixed payments from the new users are paying to run the service for the users who have already paid, while attracting investment from a wider and wider base who are expecting returns. But will never get one under this model. Over-all this has a pyramid shape and is completely unsustainable without changing to a jewish business model.
