I'll grant you that. What is the definition of leftism that you're running on, just so we're on the same page in this discussion.

Government controlled media/educational system. Indoctrinate the public to love their country, believe it to be the best, and to ensure it stays that way. Every student should know how to lead, when to follow, and be provided skills which have utility for the nation at large.
Industry should be nationalized. But it should be nationalized non-bureaucratically. Find the best and brightest to run their given industry with relative impunity, answering only to the best and brightest of them all, installed as dictator.

The best form of governance is a dictatorship run by a wise man. The problem, of course is in selecting him. It should most certainly not be done democratically, politicians are good at one thing and that is talking. Designing a good meritocracy is a challenge of its own, however.

Ideally, they would be raised from birth for the job. Effort should be made to better understand what leads to aptitude in a given field (both in terms of nature and nurture). Those with the best chances of having a great ability would be selected by geneticists and raised by a government body entrusted to bring the best out of them. As our understanding of these factors improve, so will our government.

If what you do truly has no impact on others, I'm all for it. But very few things fit that criteria. Almost everything you do has some impact on others, whether it is to toxify the minds of the youth or just making life marginally less enjoyable.
