From my knowledge of hidden history, that sounds about right, except it needs some expansion.

When I was learning how to prepare samples, I first learned of how inaccurate it can be, due to environmental fluctuations. A known quantity of burnt wood from a cave in Nevada (I forget the name of it) was shown to be off by various amounts, up to 5,000 yrs. Along the same long piece of wood variations were shown in carbon-dated age, depending upon how close to the cave entrance the sample was taken. The further from the entrance, the older the indicated date. That might indicate that the valley in Nevada (I think it was Death Valley) had been irradiated at some point, yet outside the cave, radiation levels were not anomalous. The point of this anecdote is: don't place all your eggs in one dating basket.
