>..."without their consent"
Do the French not know what a license agreement is or do they not read the fine print like everyone else?

I can't help but think they're retarded. If they want privacy, they should change their habits. Its your choice and your own fault if you lock yourself into a ecosystem whose basic design goal is to obscure its inner workings and hold your hand.

Have you considered that even with a EULA, French law will trump it?

>"The purpose of the notice is [...] to enable users to make their choice freely, having been properly informed of their rights."
This is their premise, but they fail to recognize the user has made a choice and they chose Windows. They're so close to the actual problem, but they fail to see that. They should just pull a Belgium already and quit beating around the bush. I feel their reasoning is either ignorant or intellectually dishonest.

Pretty much this.
Microsoft has cleaned up their act considerably regarding privacy with Windows 10 since the beta was released publicly.

The GWX license agreement has actually been translated from legalese to actual English, outlining what they do and how they do it in a much clearer way.
Additionally the OOBE screen following installation has several pages worth of privacy settings.
Also there's an entire section in PC Settings now related to privacy, and the "Diagnostics and usage data" screen even comes with a link to a page (support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12453/windows-10-feedback-diagnostics-privacy-faq) that details exactly what each option means in terms of data collected.

Sure, Windows 10 isn't exactly a privacy saint, but they tell you exactly what they do with your shit and how, and does so in a very clear way now, so I don't know where FCNIL gets the idea that Microsoft is doing this "without user consent".

Though I get the feeling this is a case of Americanism. France is mad that Microsoft is putting this privacy stuff into a settings screen that I guess scares most "normal people".
They would rather that Microsoft puts big red blinking text during the installation screen complete with frowny emoji faces warning people that they must uncheck this 800x800px checkbox in the center of the screen, or else Microsoft will be collecting diagnostic/usage data.

Then again this comes from the country who pretty much equates piracy to terrorism, so I'm genuinely not surprised they're going full retard in this instance.

With all the shit going down in France right now, I did not know their government could still be based.

The CNIL is an independent authority (kinda like the FCC) created specifically to ensure user data is handled properly, for instance they can give huge penalties to companies who do not hash passwords or record shit without making people sufficiently aware of it.

Their whole existence is one of the few great ideas the French had about technology legislation but it's a typical French full-on-statist thing tho so expect lolbertarians to hate it ideologically.

All in all, they are based in that they are one of the few people in the State who know their way around tech and they regularly make reports for parliament on tech issues.
(and get ignored a lot of times sadly)

^this

There's already an EULA. Normalfags willingly give away their rights.

That's not a thing you can do. Rights are inalienable.

Which is why some levels of pursuit are allowed by French jurisprudence even if you warn people that you are doing nefarious shit. It's why some clauses in your work contract can make it void and also why MS is not allowed to collect informations willy nilly.

it's their choice.

what a load.

don't be a fag. control panel has been getting exponentially more shit since windows 98 expecting grandma to click through pages of "natural language navigation" and "task based solution outlines" is bullshit.

the conflict in the american psyche between hating microsoft/updates and hating france is p.funny tbh.

EULA are non legally binding, even in the US. It's just 99.99% of people can't afford a good enough layer to fight it in court.

You got anything better than strawman or sarcasm?

Everyone uses roads, they're socialized. They're not owned by Microsoft.

Everyone eats. Poisoning food is nothing like using fucking software and you know it. Nobody's dying here. You can take your hyperbole and intellectual dishonesty and apply for a position in the CNIL, they'd like a blithering moron like you.

In practice, rights are only inalienable for as long as the populace is willing to protect them.

Truth

The only law of nature is force, lose your ability to apply force and you effectively have no rights. Whoever has the greater ability to apply force owns you. Too bad all the noguns retards are gonna fuck it up for the rest of us.

This is just the usual cat-and-mouse game these institutions play with companies. Microsoft will pay some bribe, promise to better itself and the whole issue will be soon forgotten again without changing a single thing.

I know that in Germany a EULA has no legal value, France is probably the same. EULAs are bullshit anyways, you cannot agree to some conditions before buying the product when you have to buy the product to read the EULA in the first place. It's basically a legal cargo-cult that's being practiced because everyone else is practicing it.

Actually, they are going to make it easier for us.

Their are to much (((shills))) around the politic in France
A few month ago their was "le project de loi numeric" and the government asked the French community to help to build a law for IT in France I even participated at it and the majority said we want free/libre software and free/libre hardware (plus some other things like having the right to put a copyleft license on panoramic/monuments photos) and guess what the government rejected all of the proposition maid.

Put in your mind that the government does not represent the people in France anymore.

Plus the government pushed to legal use

France is fucked up to a very high point and it is very tense a the moments the use of the 49.3 by the government isn't passing and some other bullshit that isn't resolving itself like the RSI who eats 40% to 60% of a companies money.
I am seeing people beginning to federate themselves and in a certain amount of time if the government isn't changing radically, 1789 is going to look like nothing against what is preparing.

great news

literally impossible to tell as long as Wangblows is proprietary/non-free software.

this has been common at least since the Wii

sure, it serves retards right, but you can't deny that most people are careless and therefore prey to adhesion contracts. it matters because all the power Microsoft legitimately receives from retards is gonna affect you politically in the long run.

what? According to April.org the free/libre-software-mandate-in-administration proposition was accepted, although in a weaker form. I think you are right about freedom of panorama though. It really sucks, France is full of buildings and monuments worth potographing and sharing. Only the Commonwealth and Osterriechfags got it right

I see they are informing Google about my presence on their websites. Tell us how you really feel fucking government

even the fucking homeless losers in the street use windows*. from benefits to high finance banking getting and using money is intimately connected with the personal computer as is communications.

so how 'bout you stop tone policing and pretending to take the high road you fucking reverse social justice wanker. just because I don't care enough to put on some hallowed tone about "THE FUTURE OF TECH" doesn't mean I'm wrong.

*libraries and internet cafes smell like piss for a reason

But you are wrong and those poor faggots can use a free operating system if they so choose.

I accept your yield.

that's unworkable while to the average normie a device and its software are indistinguishable.

I don't think this thread should even address the growing issue of spyware running below ring 0, but when is granny going to get around to flashing over tianocore?

further, there are the knock on effects: like social stigmas about not having facebook or a smart/iphone.

I don't yeeld end you aer gaye.

yes and by weaker form they meant that the government meant

nothing changed user it's just wind
There was also a paragraph for whistleblowers it got btfo

The only weapon we legally have against these fuckers are windmills

Last year there was also a law against planned obsolescence and it does nothing.
It only says planned obsolescence is a felony if detected you have 2 years of possible jails and a possible 300000 euros to pay.
There is nothing in that fucking law that says

Who can prove this ? private investigation ?
Hell I just discovered one in my toner cartridge in my canon printer, when the toner cartridge is too old it block itself and ask for a replacement and the clock in not in the printer it's in the fucking cartridge, you just have to short circuit that shit and it reinitialise itself and it prints until nothing is left.

Even firmwares are like that look at graphical card
when the manufacturers stop support you can't update the firmware or driver so you are obligated to buy a new GC so that the new version of your software (ex:adobe or a game) can work instead of just buying a update to a dev so that the GC can work perfectly on the new software.

Tell me user what do you fucking do when the people that where elected, that normally speak for the people don't listen anymore or have their hands tied up ?

hey how do you get that on Debian 8.5?

cnil.fr/

You can go ahead and manufacture three wheelers and sell them. Doesn't mean the government will let you.

What a cuckold, they haven't, Windows 10 is the worst invasion of privacy in computing history.

We can move the goalposts all day, but this is about CNIL's problem with Windows OS, and why they are stupid for attacking a symptom of the problem. They are too stupid to do the right thing and change their habits. It goes without saying that they are too stupid to go after OEMs and firmware developers (which, admittedly, would be the right move).

That's vague as fuck. It doesn't matter to me what OS the French are going to use. Watching them complain about it is entertaining enough.

Except the three wheelers have already been sold decads ago. What is so hard to grasp about this?

Your analogy is bad and you should feel bad.

If the French government were anywhere smart as my government is they would have started Linux migration long ago
Can't understand why can't they shut up and read the fucking License.

You smug fuckers are everything wrong with technology today. When the revolution comes, you'll be second against the wall after Gates and his ilk.

get what?
I'm running Parabola

That's great. Always nice to hear the tankies ranting about who they're going to shoot. How about we get a NEETSOC in to babble about rope day? Is "le le le" the sound of you tonguing ass? Do you eat ass? Do you eat shit?

french laws are the cuckest from the lobbyists, nothing will happen, only some socialists barking.

they are the first to promote and want to use Windows over Linux on all schools and administrations.
NOTHING will ever be done, and the pro-privacy associations will just be once again silenced...

the CNIL is a joke today, under the lead of the party they have no voice for opposing the HADOPI and LOPPSI, and other mass surveillance laws put in place as the state of emergency, and other dumb and vicious EU regulations. they remain whistle blowers.

The police, university and administration use Linux in France.
