Who else would you be?
Nano is not really an environment for doing anything much important, though I'm fully aware you're underage and under skilled
...well done? Do you want us to give you a medal?

vim is cool, sure. vi is cooler. ed is the coolest. But your thread is lame. It has no content, no meaning, no question, nothing. It's like a Sunday roast with only carrots on the plate. Please, get the fuck off Holla Forums and go back to reddit with threads as shitty as this. Your kind are not welcome here.

You should try Emacs.

I used emacs for a couple of weeks a while back when I used LaTeX, but after I stopped with LaTeX I forgot all the emacs keybinds. I'm back to being a nano user, but I'd like to get comfortable with a better editor.

How long did it take you to get comfortable with vim? What resources did you use?

What's up with this recycled picture?

...

All that you need is vimtutor and 15 minutes. vimtutor is a command, comes with vim.

And: set et ts=2 sts=2 sw=2

You thought this was the tech illiterate thread, huh?

And: set nohlsearch

Christ that highlighting is awful. Complete breaks search as navigation, stuff like d/" to delete everything up til the next doublequote, etc.

What do those mean and how do I set them?

put them in your ~/.vimrc

et : expandtab. when you hit tab, you always enter spaces. never tabs.

ts sts sw : tabs are two spaces.

nohlsearch : when you use / or ?, the result is never highlighted

I've been using Vim for about 2 years now, mostly because I can't figure out how to exit it

Use vim until you're comfortable with it then install spacemacs.

Muh consistency of interface tho

Oldest joke in the book, but you have to respect the classics, even if they are shit. I guess that's why vim is still around in the first place

Nice captcha

I can't seem to find a need to not use nano.

Where can I learn to be as edgy and autistic as this guy?

Emacs is bloated

Summer? Or just dead board?

emacs default keybinding destroys your hands. just ask stallman

github.com/amix/vimrc/

To install the basic one:
$ wget raw.githubusercontent.com/amix/vimrc/master/vimrcs/basic.vim -O ~/.vimrc

p makes more sense than ctrl+v

i was wrong, it's comfy

if you want it to be minimal, try mg

Here is an interesting read about different text editors.

I was like you until my laptop was shutting down every 5 minutes due to 135C+ temperatures.

vim is garbage.

rim, a vim rewrite in Rust is far better.

why does everyone jump on the
bandwagon?

pathetic

inb4 "rimjob.io - Run jobs from Rim"

vim really does need to be rewritten, though.

neovim

Is it compatible with older addons? How many commands and config does it break?

what are we, in a ghetto? get that negrospeak out of my sight
you sound very arrogant and cocky, suck my nuts tbh

THIS IS HOW AN AUTIST SPEAKS

autism or brain damage?

This shows where your thought process is wrong.

bumping for this

yes
negligible

No. Is good.
That's what f is for.

You sound like a really toxic uptight faggot.

And what about emacs?
Stallman wrote it in C, and from what I've heard, he's not a very good C coder.

Is EMACS good at anything? The only benefit is all the "modes" like the IRC mode so you can run a shitter version of irssi or weechat. And the vi mode that basically turns it into a shitter version of vim.

What is the point of emacs other than "look, I scripted tetris (fucking TETRIS) into a text editor using lisp". Oh, and the primary developer to this day is an autistic jew.

Why emacs other than it has a better logo for GUI fags?

comfy

Emacs has pretty decent code. It helps that it's meant to be read. Emacs has functionality for browsing its own source code, even editing functions defined in C.

He wrote GCC. He knows what he's doing.

Emacs also has an incredible amount of actual useful features. Every neat thing like multiple cursors, minimaps, automatic building and highlighting erroring code, aliases that expand as you type, and so on, and so on, has been implemented by someone.

If people make dumb things like tetris just to have fun, imagine all the useful things that are possible.

Seconded, I have a vimrc in the hundreds of lines and I switched seamlessly.
