What is the most pretentious overrated dogshit movie you have ever seen? My film student buddy told me that Anomalisa was one of his favorite movies of all time so I watched it without knowing anything about it going into it and holy shit it was insultingly awful.
If you measure the quality of a movie against how enjoyable it is there would be a minimum point on the graph where anything to the right starts to become good and anything to the left starts to become so bad it's good. This movie sits exactly on that point where it's not shit enough to laugh at its incompetence but it also doesn't have anything remotely interesting outside of a single sequence WHICH TURNS OUT TO BE A DREAM. They got my hopes up and made me think that finally after an hour into the movie it would actually get interesting but nope its just a 2deep4u dream sequence. I am legitimately mad that I spent an hour and a half of my time watching this garbage.

I swear we had this thread in the catalog somewhere already.
It's gone now oh well!
Lincoln Nelson
The OA.
Andrew Sanchez
Of course the el classico pretentious overrated dogshit movie
Dominic Morris
Anomalisa felt like an Oscar-nominated animated short stretched out to a feature. I wouldn't call it overrated because hardly anyone seems to actually care about it. Or know it exists.
Isaac Wood
Upstream Color. I wouldn't call it dogshit, don't get me wrong, but it's sort of overrated and certainly is pretentious. Again, don't get me wrong, it's good. Probably couldn't have been done any other way, exposition would have ruined it. He did sort of the same thing with Primer, that lack of exposition of what's really doing on, left it to the imagery/editing, and it was good.
I wonder what the fuck Carruth is doing now. Too bad his sci-fi epic wasn't funded.
Caleb Thompson
OP means overrated in the sense of critics, not in the sense of normalfags.
Ethan Butler
This is correct, this doesn't need to be a thread about Marvel movies and Harry Potter. Give me pretentious movies that critics can't get over (especially if they bombed with the general public).
Christopher Young
Any English or French language movie, made after the 70s, that tried to be deep or artistic in anyway. I'm not sure what happened in France or the Anglo-sphere that caused the movies made there to become such shallow and pretentious garbage around the early 80s, but it hit hard and still hasn't let up.
That's not to say haven't been good English and French movies since then, but they've all been stuff like action and horror movies. Nothing like, say, Taxi Driver or Mouchette.
Easton Hill
Boasted in the wrong thred :DDD
Parker Cook
Even that's been forgotten about
Connor Lewis
I think that's an exaggeration. There's definitely some deep/artistic English language movies made after 1970 that were good like Enemy, Children of Men, No Country for Old Men, and Snowpiercer. Though to be fair only NCFOM was directed by people who speak English so one could argue that the others don't count. I liked all 4 of those movies more than Taxi Driver which is great but overrated
Thomas Flores
Not sure if its overrated but Prometheus is definitely pretentious.
Tyler Baker
Interview with the Vampire. Stephen Rea, who has a non-speaking role, if I remember correctly, is way more memorable, than the supposedly sexy and intimidating Tom Cruize and the the slimy Brad Bitt. The other good thing is Kirsten Dunst. The rest is some YA bullshit
Zachary Robinson
I learned to avoid all movies that have quotes on it's cover saying how good it is, it's mostly pretentious indie shit. Or those that have that round symbols with leaves saying they won some Xfest award, same shit.
Asher Kelly
Not everything that has religious references is automatically pretentious.
Dylan Walker
Anything by this guy
Josiah Clark
It's not at all.
William Wilson

Levi Foster
Yeah, but it has some fresh loli in it and now all the stupid pedos drool over her and watch this turd just for the girl…

Stupid people doing stupid things: The Movie
Really, pretty much all of the conflict in the movie could've been solved if the characters weren't braindead dumb and made bad decision after bad decision, it was almost cartoonish, no one can be that incopetent. Not to mention the forced and manipulative
Brody Gutierrez
I hate people like you.
Austin Gonzalez
It's more like:
You don't need to make all characters to act cartoonish dumb to provide conflict.
Benjamin Powell
I hate people like you.
Asher Jones
I'm gonna piss off a lot of people, but… David Lynch. Specifically Eraserhead.
Carter Myers
So you have no argument? Okay…
Luis Young
Not really overrated, but it kinda pissed me off that the most interesting part of the movie (the processo of turning the guy into a woman) is completely offscreen.
Eli Lopez
Not all movies will be great when every single person is intelligent.
Austin Sanchez
In France it's always the same group of people (champagne socialists) who make those movies. No one watches them but they don't care, they get free money from the government (through the ministery of culture) to make them. They live in their own world (mostly in the 16th arrondissement) and they're the first to shit on the citizens for not being friendly enough to the rapefugees and all that shit.
David Ramirez
I like the show and the girl tbh
Brayden Lopez
Smh because you know that's how every twin peaks thread is when they don't even know what happened in any of the episodes and just talk about the revival
John Myers
SERIOUSLY FUCK THIS MOVIE!!!
Whoever recommended it here, can go fuck themselves!
No one ever speaks about it. It was just a marvel since America is relatively ignorant of hong kong martial arts/kung fu flicks.

Lynch has directed quite a few great movies.
Eraserhead is a very memorable movie. I only watched it once like a decade ago and still vividly remember many of its scenes.
Inland Empire, now that is a turd. I believe Lynch was just trolling the world by releasing such crap.
Brody Hernandez
I'll concede that the movie loses a lot of its steam after they take over the hill, but "pretentious" and "overrated?" Fuck off, you goddamn pleb.
Leo Cooper
Wasn't that his last movie?
Evan Edwards
Probably the only time someone posted their videos and I even gave a smirk. Then they overdid it and kept the joke as the end to every sentence, which lost my smirk and gave me a frown.
Justin Howard
Does make it better or worse the movie didn't win best picture?
Easton Lopez
I would say Sicario, but everyone except for the cunt and her nigger were actually cool. Now since there is going to be a sequel, I can bet that Sicario 2 will end up being pretentious overrated dogshit.
