I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

I know why Holla Forums is so hostile to anything that isn't pure GNU/Linux, /g/ both before and after we left was a cesspit. I'd still maintain that Holla Forums needs to get the 10-foot stick out of its collective ass. Doubly so since so few people here actually program, as evident by the shit-slow pace of any programming thread on here. It'd be preferable to try and hold up a high quality of posting about any technology topic, rather than just shitposting every non-libre software thread to death, but that'd require a degree of vigilance that no board, Holla Forums included, on this site is capable of keeping.

I'm not even trying to be holier than thou, because I'm not immune from the bikeshedding that goes on here either, but that's the truth of the matter.

In order to remain relatively "secure" on windows you have to block everything from being executed,

have a good knowledge of dll execution and anything installed would need to be ran from a sandboxed account. this is merely because you can not read a binary file and wouldn't be able to verify it. Not only this but you would need to dig deep into the registry to stop DCOM from actively trying to publish rpc over the internet. Doing so is the very definition of being an insane [1] tryhard [2]. Using *NIX is the most sanest option. Holla Forums is hostile towards windows users not only because it is proprietary software but mostly because those who use it are literally insane and deluded.

I'm not OP but I have had Windows 7 since this whole Windows 10 debacle began and I only had to install updates once. Because I never tried to reinstall them. Ever since then no problems.

For all the bluster of "forced" windows 10 upgrades I have not been affected more than a mild annoyance. Easily correctable.

Sure there are people who are pretty much locked to using Windows because they have gayman computers but I suppose it's pushed so hard to encourage people to learn about open source software, though this has it's own drawbacks of encouraging sperg behavior...

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask those sorts of questions, though you can always work on not taking things to seriously. That's really the point of chans, it's an outlet to be anonymous, vitriolic, and hyperbolic for cheap chuckles.

CVEs are reported vulns. If you found and fixed 1000 Linux kernel bugs that number would be really high, but Linux would be more safe as a result. It says absolutely nothing about what bugs are left undiscovered

Windows is good at consuming, Linux is good for producing. If you use Windows, it it assumed you consume but never produce, i.e. you take but never give.
