It's good; the proto-SJW vibe started to come afterward, in about season 5. They lambasted a lot of PC culture early on, like with Jodie's parents, and Jane unabashedly saying she's straight when a bisexual manipulative artsy type tries convincing her she is to undermine her. Ms. Barch is also a parody of feminists, which is ironic, because modern feminists (eg Big Red) are just like her.

Daria's edginess is also played with; in 'Through a Lens Darkly' she has to admit to herself she may be more shallow than she thinks, and her alienating personality causes her a lot of problems in life, which was something she had to come to terms with in 'Boxing Daria'.

I watch Daria whenever I get nostalgic about the 90s and early 00s. No other show does such a good job of capturing the essence of that era.

I can't even recall an instance of her mentioning Beavis and Butt-head outright other than some extremely oblique references.

I understand where you are coming from and I enjoyed Daria but ultimately I would say Beavis and Butthead did a far better job of encapsulating the 90s in merka.

there are one or two vague references, she mentions "those two retards" but in a somewhat nicer way, I think they could have done more with the two extremes, like an episode where daria figures out why they are so retarded, isnt there a B&B where she does a science experiment with them cant remember

Yes actually. As others have pointed out, Daria as a character is insufferable, and the best part is that by season 2 the writers picked up on this to where episodes had her confronting what an unlikable bitch she could be.

Yeah, she ironically starts to have quite the downfall and is called out by most of the characters throughout the series. Its one of the last american cartoons that has character development throughout its run, which the movies do a great job of encapsulating that by serving as the series finale.

I went on paheal looking for some r34 of Daria but nearly all of it is terrible off-model garbage, so have this instead.

The show was pretty nice about making sure Daria got criticized for her bullshit pretty regularly.

Introducing Tom as a boyfriend worked well since, as another user said, it made Daria spill her spaghetti hardcore. Helped to make Daria not look like some character to emulate, but rather just another stupid kid. Resulted in them having the character recognize that she was really stuck up much of the time and full of herself which most of the tumblr types fucking despise. It's part of why they often complain about the character of Tom, he destroyed the smooth cool image Daria had going in the first season and made her seem normal.

I think my problem with a lot of the Daria r34 on paheal, besides it being hilariously bad garbage that is both badly drawn and un-arousing, is that a lot of the artists keep drawing Daria with huge tits. Part of the allure of Daria is her DFC, giant tits just ruins it. Hell, the giant tits probably ruin her more than all the futa shit tbh fam.

Also apparently any Daria fan motivated enough to actually draw porn is really fucked in the head.
