If the British hadn't been such cunts and acted reasonably in surrender, Russia would have been the priority in terms of immediate hazard, but if the Americans started getting jumpy, then the Japes would be a viable means of two-fronting them as well.

That all makes a lot of sense. I imagine if Germany had somehow won the War they'd break off their ties with Japan on account of their bloodlust against Whites and the ridiculously violent shit they did to civilians during the War. Until then it was an end-justifies-the-means alliance, I guess.

Germany needed a maritime ally, and their former ally China was in civil war and had made a non-aggression pact with the USSR (though Germany would later stupidly end up doing the same thing). So they thought they were betting on the strong horse.

Of course Japs ended up making a pact with USSR too, then drawing the US into the conflict, then getting backstabbed by the USSR anyway and becoming the first target of America's superweapon. So in hindsight it wasn't a good idea.

I take all that atrocity shit with a grain of salt anyway, yeah the japs were ruthless and did some sick shit, but of course it would have been exaggerated too. I find it strange that there were no survivors from the alleged Unit 731 and that Shiro Ishii, the guy who was supposedly at the head of it all, was allowed to immigrate to America and not face any consequences.
