Benchmarks don't mean much

I seriously hope you mean in-house benchmarks

Aren't benchmarks dependent on what graphics cards the software is optimized for?

Pick only one

Nvidia spent a bunch of time trying to hype VR. And now that AMD completely kicked in Nvidia's shit, the CEO JHH is now running around talking about how VR won't be good for 20 years.

He's salty as fuck, it's hilarious.

Using X instead of 10 will only put off the inevitable need of double digits

I'm officially going to stop using Nvidia GPUs, Linux problems be damned.

Using roman numerals for long enough inevitably leads to XD

Optimizing for a single vendor is definitely easier than for multiple vendors.

Synthetic benchmarks are better predictors of future game performance as existing games are full of card-specific hacks by whichever company "helped" in development the most. If you're buying a new top of the line card to play old games then you're a moron so only synthetic benchmarks should interest you.

nice comparison pajeet

AMD is for poor people

Nvidia buyer's remorse condensed into 5 words :^)

My GTX 750 ti works exactly how I wanted it to.

Dark Souls @ 30-60FPS
GTA V @ 60FPS
KVM Passthrough with Nvidia Hack

equivalent 7770 1ghz edition has the same or lesser performance while using more power

This thread isn't about whatever dick-waving contest you're trying to win against 2 year old hardware

Tell that to the faggot that insulted Nvidia buyers

pretty obvious that insult was directed toward people who argue with no substance

how unfortunate that there's so much overlap with nvidia owners

Actually, AMD has way better drivers on Linux if you use the open source ones, and even the proprietary are not that bad. They preform well. My 6970 is running on FOSS drivers and it's fucking great. The few games available on Linux play just as good, if not better, than they do on windows.

It's not an insult. The day that I had enough money to buy nvidia shit, I bought a gtx780ti. It worked great until gameworks happened. It definitely hasn't lasted as long as my 6970, which played all kinds of games that came out long after it was released. Nvidia is great if you want the best, but be prepared to keep paying for it. Nothing wrong with being frugal either. I'm permanently going back to AMD, simply because I use Linux a lot more and gaming is starting to fade for my interests.

I actually remember a time when the flgrx driver caused screen tearing, while the mesa driver did not...

Was using a HD 4250

Ok.

Which one was the FLOSS driver again?

The mesa driver has the opposite problem. There's so many layers of vsync bufferbloat half the performance gets thrown away. If you've got a compositor it might be needlessly halving your framerate even if everything reports 60.

Mesa

Sounds like a Linux Ecosystem problem which is why I keep Linux for hacking and VMs and Windows for gaming

AMD should charge $300 instead of $200.
Poor people can still buy it by going to a payday loan place.

wtb fanless vulkan card

...

use amdgpu, much more stable drivers; fglrx is for CCC faggots who need a gui to configure shit. Although neither's ever really given me extra "linux problems" pretty sure that's just a meme.

Although my one experience with nvidia on linux was the card physically burning out in 30 minutes. So I might be biased.

I'm really disappointed that we only saw the 480, and not the 490/ polaris 11/ whatever they have to offer in the $300+ range.

Crossfire is a shitty hacked together option for competing with Nvidia's high end cards. You're never going to see that kind of multi GPU scaling outside of games where the developers worked together specifically with the card manufacturers. And half those games that are left out of that won't even recognize the second card until a hotfix that comes out 3 weeks after the game.

Polaris 11 is the smaller chip, meant for notebooks/laptops

wccftech.com/amd-polaris-10-desktop-polaris-11-notebook-gpu/

You'll have to wait for vega (2017)

7 years of integrated graphics here I come!

geez you niggers really are desperate for amd to be relevant again eh

So they're basically giving the high end market to Nvidia for free.

Fuq

They realized most people are retarded and will still buy nvidia no matter what, so they're going for the sensible people.

Why did nvidia never try to make an x86 clone?

what im wondering is, what makes a video card perform well in virtual reality, like they claim this does despite the low price point? did they make new instructions? does it require a certain component? i dont get it.

AMD in a unique position that a court decision left them with the ability to license x86 architecture.

high end market doesn't mean shit. most of people just want playable and bearable experience even if it means playing at 320x200 resolution

Just like how Zen was coming in 2015, then 2016, and now probably 2017...

Except that's where most of the profit is made you stupid faggot.

NVIDIA ON SUICIDE WATCH

Zen is coming in October and there's nothing you can do about it, jew

when will this finally die

hey i got a GTX 550 TI graphics card in my gaymen rig i used in highschool and i tried to play some modern games on it and it keeps fucking up. what card should i buy if i'm a jew and like hoarding money? i don't care about insane graphics i just want to be able to play current games & the sticky thread didnt ever reply

What resolution monitor do you have? What types of games do you play?

If 1440p and you want to play modern action games with all graphical bells and whistles with good min frame rate, then you'll need a 1070.

If you're at 1440p and willing to turn down some things like ambient occlusion, then 1060 or RX480 should be enough.

If you are on 1080p, or if you're not playing games that require high frame rates (action games, driving games), then you can go even lower.

my resolution is 1920x1080. does that mean i'm 1080p? right now only game i'm playing is diablo 3 but i want to play doom after the price drops. what should i buy?

a rope and a chair.

You're at 1080p. You can afford to go lower than a 1060/RX480 to play diablo and doom. But it's unclear when new generation cards weaker than those will come out. You can definitely get the 4gb version of the RX480 at the end of the month for $200. Otherwise, you are waiting longer. Either way, you need to wait until the end of the month for the new 480 to force down the prices of last generation cards if you want one of those. Maybe at that time you could get a R9 380X for around $130.

It's bizarre how my Radeon 5770, my First Gen lowest i7, 4GB of 1333 Memory and a Sata2 HDD are still running blazing fast, with every modern game running at maximum with 60fps.
The only trick to accomplish this is having a 1366x768 screen, and that alone spared me from thousands of dollars, now almost troughtout a decade, of expensive and useless hardware who gets surparssed rapidly within months of release.

Seriously, I'll only buy another PC (or notebook, as I'm wishing that for a time now) when 1TB SSD becomes cheap.

Until then, this dick-measure game will be an eternal joke.
Like, I don't know if I pity or condemn the retards that bought Titans... just to be outdicked by a "affordable" 1070 now.

alright i'll wait a month or so and then see about the r9 380x

When will this meme die

as opposed to what, 1080i?
Fuck off autist, this is a standard thing people use

Because Intel destroyed every other x86 competitor besides AMD and Via. Not to mention Intel kicked Nvidia out of the chipset business. Intel is impossible to compete with, they're the most evil assholes in tech.

They said in livestream at computex that 480 was designed around 1440p. The lower your resolution, the more dependent on CPU performance you are. Though if you're not maxed out and CPU limited, you can increase graphics options and it doesn't really affect frame rate most of the time (depends on how much more CPU power the setting demands though).

But an 8GB 480X would be perfect for 1440p IMO.

And I would aim for 480 or 480X, solely for the fact that it supports DX12 and Vulkan properly. Nvidia's Vulkan and DX12 support is a total joke, and its' going to show more and more as DX12 and Vulkan games are released.

AMD's older cards are pretty good for DX12 and Vulkan, but the 480(x) has even better support. I wager that a 480 would be something to keep around a lot longer than an Nvidia or an older AMD card. Nvidia cards usually don't age very well. We saw with GTX 680 where it was strong at launch, and a year later 7970 was doing very well against it. And after two years GTX 680 was blown away by 7970. Nvidia hardware just doesn't keep up with software, and it doesn't age well.

that's pathetic dude. you won't be able to see half the shit on screen.

Well that's all fine and dandy but does he poo in the loo?

That is an outright lie and you know it.

You can say that again. I had the GTS 450 in my 2012 budget build, and after their driver 321, I started getting all sorts of crashes and reboots. My screen would literally go black on newer drivers. It was fucking infuriating. I had to keep it on the old driver for the rest of the time I used it. When I sold it to a fat disabled guy, I had to warn him about it too.

My GTX 750 has been even worse. For the first several months I had it, it was giving me screen tearing I had never experienced before, watching anime on windows 7. When it came to Linux, it was totally crippled. Noveau would simply crash my whole rig. Most of the proprietary drivers STILL crash as well. I can't use nvidia-340 or earlier, and I can't use nvidia-364. I have to use 355 or 358. It's insane, and it's limiting my ability to distrohop because a lot of distros don't have access to the nvidia proprietary PPA. I've actually ordered a $30 AMD GPU just to see if the open source drivers work better than this mess. And I'm definitely switching to AMD for my next build, because they're going all-in on opensource drivers.

Exactly, retard. Never seen a monitor output interlaced.

Latency.

Most video cards in the last decade have been built around the assumption that their userbase are shallow, drooling mongoloids who buy things purely based on whose dick framerate bargraph is bigger, so as long as they can run cawwadooty at 1080p60 they can get away with up to 20 frames of input lag. VR *requires* less than 5-6ms of lag, which means 100fps with no buffering at minimum.

FHD is shorter and infinitely more correct, it doesn't take an autist to understand that

Also this

this is some crazy desperation tactic shit

sounds like they had already taped out the board design when pascal was launched, shitted their pants and are trying to pretend it was supposed to be used in SLI

No, absolutely not. If the data in that slide is correct, the most outstanding point the curry could make is that for 200 dollars less you get higher performance in AotS (and a proper software stack I may add)

Well, my screen is 19'' and I have no problems with it at that resolution.
Of course 1080, 1440 and beyond would be better.
But, at the expense of money, not only on a new screen, but in a whole new machine to support it:
Is it worth? Or you were just conditioned to propaganda?
Of course it isn't worth. If technology has teached me something is that the spectacular of today will continue to be spectacular tomorrow, but far cheaper.
Buying outdated is not only the smart choice, but stoic.

Seeing as FHD hasn't been bleeding edge for years now and extremely cheap, you can upgrade too! You don't have to be stuck with a desktop-sized monitor on a laptop-tier resolution anymore!

*and is extremely

It completely depends on the games one plays.
Someone playing fighting games might be perfectly happy with 768, and glad for the extra fps.
I play games with lots of text hud, or with gorgeous large screen images. Either way, I don't want to go back below 1440.

It still requires new processors and graphic cards to support the newest games at maximum output.
So, if I want to leap from 768 to 1080, I would just have to but a new computer altogether, and for what? If what i have serves me well?
As I've said in my previous post I will only upgrade when 1TB SSD becomes cheap, and when it does, the $200 graphic cards will also be good for 2k, and so the monitors, and so the processors and memories and etc.

Technology works in Cycles. We're in the middle of one, the second worse timing to upgrade your stuff.

Cycle Begins: 1080 is now the new frontier
Everything starts getting adapted for it, new stuff appears.
Things here are very expensive and the adoption rate is insignificant.

Middle of Cycle: Where we're now. 1080 is very well established and 1440 is starting to pop up here and there.
1080 price is normalized, 1440 is Overpriced and irrelevant.

End of Cycle: 1080 is starting to vanish, and 1440 is becoming the "new 1080".
1080 is Cheap and Widely rich in content, 1440 is still irrelevant, but gaining acception.

End of Cycle is always best option.

Can you run The Witcher 3 at 320 x 240 on an old 8800 GTX? I believe not.

The movie industry works in cuckles. Maybe in 3 or 4 of them you'll have finally caught up to where the T220 was in the 90s.

It's only over when one company folds.

Serious answer. AMD APU + AMD GPU. I spent around $200 on a first generation APU with a graphics card and I have been nothing but impressed with it. It isn't stunning but for a machine that cost less than $300 to build, it's done more than I ever thought was possible for such a low price.

listen m8
all what they are saying is that
and both of them will say the same crap and will renew that same crap with

Where is the proof of what they are saying ?

-They don't show the firmware or driver source code
-They don't show the new VLSI changes
-All I see is some faggot showing graphics that x company made + we all know that these so called bencmarks are just cucked by the manufacturers.

This is just fucking HYPE bullshit

It's stupidity. It's worse than stupidity: it's a marketing hype campaign. … Somebody is saying this is inevitable – and whenever you hear somebody saying that, it's very likely to be a set of businesses campaigning to make it true

This thread as bean going for years to and it proves that hardware manufacturers are just fucking everyone with just drivers, firmwares and a bit of hardware tinkering .

i meant

there is no way AMD was planning this. people who buy budget video cards don't buy expensive PSUs or SLI motherboards. the whole thing reeks of desperation.

besides if nvidia actually feels threatened they can just cut their margins until AMD isn't economic anymore and still make more margin than AMD is.

inb4 fanboy, i'm running a radeon

Get yourself something with an AMD A10-7850K

"1080p" is OK IMHO

...

Each GPU is $199, nice try Nvidia.

AMD's selling two GPUs for the price of 1.7 :^)

So, i might get 31,25 fps at the cost of $199.
But what are the settings used in the game to make the comparison to start with ?
Being just DX12 wont help shit.
Plus this 480 is entry-mid level shit against mid-to-high level card as 1080.
What the fuck is AMD doing, thats full retard, since it should a single 480 compared to a 1070 at least.
Dont get me start on the DX12 and M$ deal.

You do know that the R7 370 is at a near same price point (maybe 10-20 euros or dollars more depending on location) and has much, much better performance, right?

Don't even bring up a Nvidia gameworks game benchmark by Tom's Hardware or some shit. I'm talking about pure, number crunching power.

Enjoy your drivers being abandoned in half a year, faggot.

...

You need 500W at the most to run a system with two graphics cards made today

They cost 100€ at the most, we're not talking about extreme poorfagging here if we want to compare a xfire with a fucking 1080

Why haven't they already? Maybe because they can't after all?

I seriously hope AMD can survive tbh. Having only one major vendor of GPUs is just wrong. Even two isn't proving to be so good. I hope that both AMD survives and by some miracle a third major vendor appears. Then competition might be expected to benefit the consumers bottom line. Till then its simply an NVidia monopoly on the market atp.

No way. RX480 = 150W TDP. Actual draw on the PSU is around 1.5 times that * 2 * 150w = you've maxed out a 500w and the cpu isn't even plugged in yet.

I don't even know what you're trying to say with "market-analysis-pro", nvidia isn't selling its chips cheaper because it doesn't have to, that's all.

Maybe if AMD just died instead of staggering around like a zombie somebody would swoop in and save the market. idk.

Sauce

Or maybe they can't because they'd have a monopoly if AMD goes out of business?

...

In a perfect World, things would be branded as:
250 = Exactly 250 pixels wide.
500 = Exactly 500 pixels wide.
1K = Exactly 1000 pixels wide.
2K = Exactly 2000 pixels wide.
4K = Exactly 4000 pixels wide.
8K = Exactly 8000 pixels wide.

With that, the Ratios could be interchangeable between the same Resolution.
See pic related.

We should at least standardize longer or shorter edge

...

Why

Because if you go binary, one time or another the resolution will spill out, like:
8K = 8192 (Not 8, but 8.1)
16K = 16384 (Not 16, but 16.3)
32K = 32748 (Not 32, but 32.7)
64K = 65536 (Not even 64, but 65.5)

And then the standard goes to the trash.

Care to expand on that? That's like saying 1024 is trash because it's not clean in base 1000

Yes, 65535 divided by 100
00 comes out to 65.535 and yes, that is not computer based. But guess what? Neither is the 1000 you were basing your calculations on! And 65536÷1024=64

Hit enter instead of backspace there

I kind of miss when people actually wrote out the actual resolution they were talking about. 1920x1080, 640x480, etc

One Two Eighty by One Oh Two Four

Is nothing out or is this board just dead?

There was one, might be still in the catalog. Holla Forums never liked nvidia because of the shitty support of the free drivers and shady practices like the 3.5 GB story and paying game companies to make AMD slower by including invisible layers in their games. It looks like the 970/980 doesn't even have decent support for Vulkan and DX12. And the 1070/1080 are super expensive.

Read the examples in this thread why you shouldn't support Nvidia in any way.

what would this be for?

Rumor has it that they will be revealing the full p10 with 2560 shaders as a RX 490 at the PC gaming show in 4 hours.

pcgamingshow.com/

it's ogre

All the shills were raving Polaris won't overclock good were BTFO, 300Mhz OC. The full Polaris 10 with 2560 Cores (vs the 480's 2304) should BTFO of the 1070 and should be cheaper because of the smaller die size.

R.I.P Nvidia

All the wee a boos could have hardware accelerated anime from the fansub groups with autistic encoders

If these benchmarks are accurate it means anyone who brought a 1070 for $700 will be equal with an OC'd 480 for around $260-300 for the 4GB variant.

Not to mention the 490 which probably will be around 400-450 $$ and will trash the 1070.

Normies who rushed out to buy the 1070 founders edition like little sheep will be on suicide watch.

I was talking in AUD by the way.

So not real money then.

Australia should switch to the currency of the world's economy, the Yuan

sweeet. it's settled then. I'm getting one of these bitches Black Friday.

i second this, go with 480 or 480x

nvidia locks you in with shitty proprietary drivers and shitty support for dx12 and vulkan.

Now I have to wait for 490s

then whatever NVIDIA puts out then ad infinitum
