I think it's because they came across alt right and/or Trump supporters that would speak against things like the "we need to empathize with pedophiles" articles and took this to mean they were over reacting hilariously.

They also get confused by things like the recent political kerfuffle with the Ethics office and think it means right wingers are against ethics rather than right wingers are against a highly politicized Democrat controlled office that almost solely targets right wingers.

They also seem to view Trump as extreme right wing (if I'm reading their comments right), which probably means they're paying way too much attention to what much of the MSM says.

If you pay too much attention to the crap coming out of CNN and Fox news then much of the complaints about Trump would just seem reasonable. I'm guessing that's the case with AS.

Haven't heard anything else by Lily Tomlin aside from this bit but I've listened to it two or three times now and laugh just as hard every time, which I've never done for really any other "comedienne" that I've heard before.
