I think that people don't know what an ideal is anymore. Even the word "idealist" have gotten a negative connotation. I think that implicit in that assumption is that we shouldnt strive for something better when even small changes would make things a lot better.

Our systems of government are mature for the compost bin. They are overripe. That is why democracy and such words are lauded so much by our puppet masters. People need ideals but shouldnt think so much about them, so just accept ours and go back to sleep. I think that /any/ system would be better than the one we have today.. We could go back to god-kings ruling city-states, or we could try direct democracy. Everything is better than the system we have today where the elite is just trying to fuck everyone over as hard as possible without anyone noticing and pulls the veneer of democracy over their eyes so that they don't notice. The worst kind of despotism is the one where the populace doesnt even realize that they are slaves. Even an honest feudalist system would be better than the one we have today. That says a lot.
