The same could be said for Lord of the Rings or any story, all tales grow in the telling. The argument that Lucas didn't plan things and he made everything up, and that the prequels were never on his mind, is absolutely absurd and could only come from an uncreative mind.

The Jedi Order, The transfer of the Republic into the Empire, the tragic hero and redemption of the villain, all of that is in his original draft.

I can't quite put my finger on why that works in the film's favour but when you have people making quips and stuff like in TFA it's just wrong. Acting is the prequels is also more visual than verbal, it makes it seem like overacting at times but I think there's a vision behind that. You could turn off the sound or not understand the language and still clearly understand what the characters feel and communicate.
