Studio change, too much money to train people.

What I liked about this was that they addressed Janine's change in appearance with an in-show explanation (Season 6, Episode 4: Janine, You've Changed). *

It turned out she had encountered an entity that was more or less posing as a genie, and she kept having it change her appearance to make her prettier.

When the guys finally catch on, Egon even explains that her voice changed and how her bone structure has been radically altered to achieve her new looks.

Addressing an appearance change in-show is pretty rare for live action, but for animation? It just isn't done.

Ghostbusters did it.

Nobody in B:TAS ever asked Joker what the fuck happened to the whites of his eyes, nor did anyone ever explain why Batgirl, Harley, Catwoman, or Poison Ivy's curves and ripe, perky, upward-pointing, tits went.

Outside the show, they said Bruce Timm just felt it was time for a change, but I think there may have been a memo from on high that the show was giving boners to too many preteens.

* Also, Janine in a nightgown.

Is the Ghostbusters cartoon worth watching outside of nostalgia's sake?

Fairy godmother, actually: I misspoke.

This episode would have SJWs and feminists going absolutely apeshit if it aired today. Janine picks apart her appearance while looking in the mirror and is actively changing herself specifically for a man.

Sure, at the end of the episode Egon tries to reason with her, saying he doesn't care about her looks, but who she is inside, but that wouldn't be good enough, today.

If they did an episode even sort of approaching this plot, now, she'd be upset about her looks specifically because a man was telling her she wasn't good enough. And, in the end, she'd realize she's good enough either on her own or through the power of sisterhood, because of positive relationships with another female in her life. Then she'd beat the entity on her own or with the same female friend, either through sheer willpower (and the power of sisterhood) or by picking up a proton pack and defeating it that way, and better than the boys could.

It is alright. Some people do overhype it because nostalgia, but it still holds up well enough.

I've only seen about three episodes in the last twenty years, so I couldn't really say. What I can say is that I found Slimer and his retarded antics intolerable when I was a child, so I can only imagine how little patience I'd have for them today.

I've never seen the Extreme Ghostbusters.By the time it came along, I was out of high school. I didn't even know it existed until I ran across Rule 34 of Kylie and wondered, "Who the hell is this?"

Even if I had heard of it, that was well after our TV reception got so bad we couldn't watch the local syndicated stations most of the weekday cartoons ran on, and was about 4 or 5 years until we got Dish Network.

I remember Extreme Ghostbusters being decent as a kid, though it might not stand up today.
Kylie's pretty good in the comics, though.

Sharp objects scare little kids.

Extreme Ghostbusters actually holds up pretty well. Decent, realistic writing for a kids show. I recall that most episodes lined the scenario up with some usually solid character development

Kylie, the goth girl trying to cope with loss, works well as a lead (and especially well as a catalyst when she accidentally the whole city in the series opening)
Eduardo makes a good shaggy and Roland made an okay minoriteam addition as the techie (and if you think about it, Mission Impossible did the same thing)
My only complaint about the series is Garrett. Handicapable paraplegic? Fine. Extreme sports nut? Yeesh, fine. Also an asshole? Fuck it. Fuck this guy, we don't need an action team this diverse.

I bet the handicapped guy was added by the execs and the writers made him an asshole to show off how stupid he was.
Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

writer revolts do happen

Extreme Ghostbusters was the shit we hate,

Hipster remake of the OP hamfisted diversity and goth/emo/hipster protagonists. Dropped it on second episode. Also why the fuck was Egon a dirty long haired hippie?

Holla Forums isn't a hivemind.

Yes it is. Try reddit if you want to be a special snowflake.

the characters mostly fit the tone of horror, something which at least the antagonist faction (if you can call it that (it wasn't always ghosts after all)) of ghostbusters was always trying for. Since the stories often ended up personal for a given character, this is, to me, an acceptable approach. (it's not guilty of anything Batman Beyond didn't do)
For example: an episode dealing with a ghost that exploits your fears. Eduardo was forced to confront his own mortality

I suppose it lacked much of classic ghostbusters's irreverence, and that's lamentable, but that's not the story they were trying to tell.

I could lament the minoriteam aspect but a lot of shows were doing that in the 90s

IIRC, I heard it was addressing some really bizarre parents groups/executives outrage about Janine, apparently her pointy glasses were thought to scare children or something.

It was the 80s, so I guess we're lucky they didn't go all Danny Phantom on the ghosts.

Wasn't there a Ghostbusters ep where they encounter something so weird it's as out of their frame of reference as ghosts are to everyone else?

Well, I think it was a diversity team done well, even a pareplegic jerk who gets in danger as much as the others do and doesn't get any special treatment or simpathy points for being in a wheelchair.

Given how heavy and cumbersome the GB gear is, having someone to wheel it around mighta helped.

From all I hear, paralympic types are hardcore.

They had an encounter with Cthulhu.

...

I remember an episode where they were called in a village in the midst of a vampire feud just to find out the villagers are werewolves.

Somehow I doubt that. A show with 50% beaners? Jesus Christ I-I don't think I can contain my Holla Forums…

y-you….

YOU HAVE TO GO BACK.

>>>Holla Forums

...

Yes, leftards are that oblivious of their environment.

I have to know user; is it lesbian cartoon porn or just lesbian porn?

Why can't Holla Forumstards stay in their containment board?

They leave their hugboard, get btfo, then scuttle away screaming 'MAH ESSJAYDUBYA, MAH CUCKCHAN, MAH LEFTYPOL BOOGEYMAN'

It went from disgust, to pity, and full circle back to disgust.

Oh man, they fap to cartoons? Fucking disgusting, what kind of pervert would do such a thing?

Calm yourself user. Maybe you will feel better after you watch the new Ghostbusters movie?

anti-semitism is retarded, fuck off

Speak for yourself. Season 1 was clumsily animated but had the best episodes, easy. Still worth watching today. Characters had distinct personalities to them which is rare in modern cartoons, the goth girl, spic, nigger and cripple werent just the best people ever but young adults with personality traits that more often than not got them in trouble, even the hyperactive wheelchair-dude.

And the show didnt shy away from scaring kids either. Sure, most episodes were "ghost of the week"-type of episodes but that was okay since a lot of the ghosts were decent. Like the Hellraiser cenobite-parody episode, or the house that is a ghost in itself that eats children, or demonic clowns that ate you if you laughed.

The new movie shouldve taken notes from this show on how to do things properly without taking a shit on the original. Ghostbusters isnt some SNL skit with ghosts thrown in, its an adventure with horror elements and what humor there is comes from the character interaction. Closest other movies to Ghostbusters would be Gremlings, or even that new Krampus flick.

Kinda the whole point of Ghostbusters is that they encounter crazy horror movie shit but they have the equipment and weaponry to actually deal with them. Also, they're a bunch of weird dorky goofballs. (Even Winston had to be pretty goofy to fit in as well as he did)

...

Man, Extreme Ghostbusters has a lot of references now that I think of it.

eat shit, jew rat

does someone has that callart jpeg ?

found it

Micheal Strazinski has spoken about this at length. There is an elaborate Youtube video explaining the entire story. I will summarize here.

The Network realized that it had the highest rated Saturday Morning show on the planet, and it had been going strong for about two years. It was winning over critics and building a solid yet growing fan base. Being the greedy corporate heads-up-the-round-file guys that they are, they declared, "We've got to fix this!"

The network hired a small consultant company with basically zero experience in this field. The consultant company performed zero research and submitted a list of recommended changes.

Recommended changes included but were not limited to: Her classes are too severe and may scare children, so her entire look should be softened. Winston has no clear role on the show, so he should be made the driver. Ray has no clear role on the show, so he should be written out entirely. Peter should more nice to Slimmer. More Slimmer. Even more Slimmer.

Everyone involved in the show fought back, but the Network considered this report to the word of God (because a small amount of money was paid for it, I guess). The Network forced these most of these changes, thus was born "Slimmer and the Real Ghostbusters". JMS quit out of frustration and went on to create Babylon-5. A lot of this was confirmed in interviews which were packaged as DVD extras.

Reminds me of how WB shoved Elmyra into Pinky and the Brain for no good reason and everyone hated it.

agreed, it was pure shit

What was bad about it? I rewatched all of the episodes recently and I liked it.

That's the Slade I think he meant something like this

maybe you should try not to have shit-tier taste?

Maybe you should explain why you didn't like it instead?

Holla Forums seriously needs to go. This is why the board has gone to shit. Not tumblr posters or anything like that. It is Holla Forums forcing their bullshit on a board and then screaming and crying about how oppressed they drag every thread off topic to talk about their bullshit imaginary problems. They really are exactly like the SJWs.

...

Almost the exact same post was on /a/ just a couple of minutes ago.

Are Holla Forums or Holla Forums doing a raid on other boards again?

Don't you mean "still"?

...

JMS also had issues with executive meddling when he made Crusade, the ill-fated Babylon 5 spin-off (maybe he had issues with B5 too).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusade_(TV_series)#Continuity_problems

American television can be very weird and dysfunctional.

Execs are constantly worried about making money, so you'll often get them doing dumb things to shows to try and 'improve' them.

am i weird for thinking she was prettier before?

...

She was. Back then I didn't see it though, because of her offputting hair.

He did, though B5 actually managed to make it out okay. If you ignore the last season at least.

HOLY SHIT

The first season and the second season are the only worth to watch. After that. Whole show got watered down. They fucking replaced Lorenso Music as Peter Wenkman in season 3 and onwards. This guy explains very well what happened to The Real Ghostbusters

Finally, someone posting Phelous.

You need to stop with this idea of a transient raid. Like most attempts at subversion the "raid" involves a few individuals who consistently lurk boards (they are or may not actually be interested in or knowledgeable about the board topic) have the premeditated intention of reacting to every instance of wrongthink. The intention is to imply that the consensus opinion on the board is that of the subversive poster, and that contrary opinions or even jokes, memes and ways of speaking are unacceptable and damaging the health of the board in some way. Needless to say what's really going on is a shift from people speaking their minds (like-minded people tend to congregate and form their own communities, thus 8/co/ is more Holla Forums than 4/co/) to people filtering their thoughts through an implied rulebook of social norms and standards of speech. The idea that such a construct, which relies on social pressure to ensure conformity, could arise organically on an anonymous image board is completely absurd, which is why all they manage to do is piss off everyone else.

The site is dominated by Holla Forums and Holla Forums users. On average, any given board is going to have some exclusive members, but the rest will be posters who pop over from Holla Forums and Holla Forums. A very large chunk of Holla Forums posters will always also be Holla Forumsacks. That's just a matter of numbers. Given the history of the site itself and the ideology of the people using it, complaining about wrongthink is a complete fucking waste of time and does nothing but reveal yourself as an outsiders. You don't have to like it, but you do have to put up with it.
