The problem was, if any, Hitler did not perish Mussolini's invasion of Greece, which was a catalyst for the coup because 1) it implied Hitler was not as reliable control on his allies and 2) the Axis might not be as strong as perceived. If only Hitler put more pressure on Italy to not attack Greece, maybe the Anglophiles in the Serb royal court could be silenced and Prince Paul and his regency could continue with Yugoslavia remaining neutral. Then again, the British were meddling rather hardcore in the run up to the coup to stoke Serb nationalism.
