Now, in 2016 as well, it's still very very difficult to get a job in almost any sector if you have visible tattoos or visible piercings on your face. While piercings suck, they are much better than tattoos for one reason: the piercing can be removed and they will heal up to where you don't notice or barely notice that they were ever there.
