Christianity has successfully provided that unity to Western Civilization for two thousand years.

Denouncing it and furthering its decline is counterproductive unless you simultaneously replace it with a stronger, better ideology.

Hitler didn't hate Christianity. He complained, rightfully, about the weakness and meekness of modern Christianity.

But, rather than denouncing it outright, he tried to reforge it into something stronger. He established ties with the Catholic Church. He referred to his movement as an Order. He revived iconography and rites used by the Roman Empire.

The soldiers on the eastern front against the Communists (who did abolish Christianity and enforced Atheism) wore belt buckles that read "Gott Mit Uns". Literally this translates to "God with us". But, really, it is the German equivalent to "God wills it". Or Deus Vult, if you like.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany announced in 1935 that in line with the government's
policies, the Jewish "Old Testament" would henceforth be stricken from the Canon. This they saw as a
continuation of the Protestant Reformation, and to emphasize the connection the announcement was
made at Magdeburg, the same place where Martin Luther began his rebellion against Rome. Just as
