What a terrible and gross oversimplification. Vaccines would not be a problem if they didn't have heavy metals such as mercury in them. Heavy metals cause brain damage and this is especially so for growing brains where the metals bond themselves to minerals that the brain wants to absorb. The symptoms of heavy metal poisoning and the damage it causes is obfuscated by the widespread diagnosis of "autism," leading people to disregard the whole problem as a problem with over-diagnosing autism rather than the poison itself. Guess what? Getting people to stop over-diagnosing autism isn't going to undo the damage and isn't going to make the poison go away.
Even in adults with fully developed brains this is hazardous and it can still cause acute symptoms of brain damage. This damage is also an accumulative affect, but it's most hazardous to developing brains, as said before. A famous example of this would be the bizarre push to have everyone get seasonal flu vaccines. Even areas where heavy metals have been "phased out" from vaccine shots, they haven't actually been "phased out."

Mandatory vaccination has existed in other forms, so when they try to take it to the next level, they cite precedent and pass it. Thus the problem applies to everyone, not just the people who don't take vaccines, poison or no-poison. To make matters worse, the required list of vaccines increases as time goes on.

The problem in the eyes of the pro-vaccine side is there is a fear over herd immunity. The idea being that if not everyone is immunized against a disease then the one not immunized may catch the disease, have it mutate, and proceed to infect others who may no longer have their vaccine be effective.
We've had diseases that were once thought nearly extinct seem to pop right back up in the public eye because of people that weren't immunized, though a large part of that is because of people immigrating over who are of course not checked out much if at all.
For the anti-vaccine side there is a concern that the vaccines have heavy metals that could harm kids. Which ends up seeming all the more strange given that things like mercury are really just added to vaccines to help act as a preservative rather than because it's necessary for the production of the vaccine.
Just in the past few years there was the famous incident where members of the German government received vaccinations that specifically had no mercury. Which can make it look like a situation of the haves versus the have nots.
A simple solution would be to just allow for more transparency concerning how ingredients are in the vaccines that kids receive as well as allowing people to purchase different brands of vaccines should they wish to. But doing this would likely face obstacles since it would require recognition of what the concerns even are which the pro-vaccine side usually wants to avoid doing.

A good point. The problem with the "preservative" label is that the thimersal/thiomersal (why can't they decide on a name?) as a preservative - or anti-fungal as they use those interchangeably - is that it hasn't been and never was necessary. Calling it something else like "organomercury," a pharmaceutical buzzword, doesn't change the fact that it still behaves like mercury towards its environment. The addition to it itself is like adding an oil additive to your car that does the complete opposite of what you want it to do, leading to an eventual breakdown but not before a gradual decline in performance. Even if one puts aside the accusation that it was the root cause of vaccinations causing autism and other health problems, the inclusion of it is inherently suspicious and warrants investigation just on that end. In fact that's a whole other rabbit hole altogether.
Here's a weak parellel but a parellel nonetheless. Propylene glycol is an additive put in foods and other products that end up on or inside people's bodies. It's nowhere near as dangerous as mercury, but it's still added in varying amounts just because it "can" act like an anti-fungal agent. Thus the anti-fungal and preservative label is constantly being rendered as dubious because of the lofty usage of, "if it kills fungus, it's now anti-fungal." This is the same reasoning behind products marked for certain uses but in reality are overkill being found in everyday things.
That's certainly what they're hoping to avoid.

There's a very real chance of mutation due to those who aren't vax'd, but viruses and bacteria can't exactly spread as easily when they don't have factories to mass produce themselves due to immunity.
Herd immunity implies the protection of those who aren't immune, through vaccines or through natural immunization mutations, from infection.

Japan is a special case because one, it's Japan. Two, asian countries have a historically noteworthy distrust to psychology in general, and they should.
