Crisis in the Kremlin thread: Stalin did nothing wrong Edition

So, I've had this thought in my mind for quite a while now - can you comrades save Soviet Union from its collapse or not? For those that never heard of this, here's a quick explanation: it's a strategy game where you're playing as one of Soviet Union's leaders and try to lead it to victory through economic or military means. Without further ado, we begin. Choose a start date.

HOW DO I DO ANYTHING COMRADE.

Start with choosing a starting date. This should suffice for now.

I have won four times:
First by effectively going Dengist
Second by going hyper ☭TANKIE☭
Third by bringing posadism
And the fourth by preserving the socialist economy

Honestly it is hard af, but it is good fun. And tbh I am not sure it is possible to win as Gorby.

Dissolve the bureaucracy, give power back to the soviets, and implement cybernetic planning/research. Also deal with the growing nationalist movements in the USSR's constituent republics (and do it without killing people). There, I solved the USSR for you OP, you're welcome. In all actuality the possibility of actually achieving socialism was years off, but a government built on decentralized grassroots democracy would likely have allowed them to survive until socialism was possible. Dengism is a cop-out tbqh

I was able to win by just maintaining the status quo and slowly advancing in technology, winning international acclaim with landings on the moon and Mars. Then I began launching invasions after NATO collapsed, and that was that.

1986

How would that be possible at all without being subverted by NATO

1985

How exactly would NATO subvert such a structure? Most people in the USSR wanted socialism, and the strongly centralized bureaucratic power in the USSR was what allowed them to subvert it and go against the will of the people.

Looks like we're in need of a tiebreaker.

It's cool, go with 1986 since his post came before mine.

If you'd like we could continue this in another thread so that we aren't shitting up OP's gamethread with our petty arguing scholastic discourse.

1986 it is. Now, choore your General Secretary - Romanov or Gorbachev. Or you can go with a self-insert, that's a viable option as well.
The difficulty is Hard, by the way.

Grigory Romanov
NO MERCY FOR REFORMISTS

I was exaggerating I can play the game, but I dont understand how my funds work and I keep getting detentes

Well then, this thread will be a perfect opportunity for you to discover those mysteries. Just play along and all shall be revealed.

Guide me commissar. Im in 1985 and playing as the eternal trot.

Seeing as nobody else voted, Romanov it is. And now, we choose our leaning.

Let the NCPSU join.

Let's see if it works out.

And, naturally, we choose our Number 2. Usually I go with Gromyko, but maybe we can work with Tarasov this time.

Tarasov

And done. Moving on.

It's your favourite time of the year, comrades. Who deserves to be purged?

Attack conservatives

conservatives

Unanimously.

Economic pressure is being applied to us, wat do?

Double production!

Slow down with out allies, increase production until the income is the highest, then reduce it until the income is the same but the % is lower.
E.G: If 130, 140 and 150% all produce 7 income, go with 130.

I'm inclined to agree with the game on this one. Was it worth it?

Unfortunately, you came with that suggestion too late. Next question - space and its usage.

Option 3

OPTION THREE

Done. Just remember that our money is not limitless, for now.

Fugg I was too late

Was this written by western liberals?

Anyone mind elaborating on various political groups mentioned here?
As obvious as Trots and Stalinists get, what should I know of be it reformists, moderates, conservatives or who not without going full retard or capitalist.

Remember, we're socialists. Therefore, we still have five-year plans.

Here's how it works:
It should be obvious to you who is in dire need of purging.

Liberals and reformists presumeably.
I cannot help but feel distaste for Stalinism though, in spite of the core idea being fine.

Seems hard to make a reasonable judgement without knowign the current situation, so I'll just stick with leaving them the same.

This to this
Don't know about moderates.. wouldn't have anything against reasonable reformation, so maybe guess that'd be more of an alignament towards conservatives instead. Afraid if moderates have an affinity for liberalism and reformism though, then again Gromyko as an example seemed fine I guess..

Gold in reserve and the economic struggle considered, leave it be.

We leave it be. Also, here's the current economic situation.

Wait, you have to manually add up everything? Why doesn't the game just give you a net income and spending?

See these? They should be enough.
and

Well fugg :D

We space communism now?

Is he going to use his wizardry to balance the budget?

No comrade, he brought Napoleon's Grande Armée back from the grave to fight for the Union

This looks like some HOI3 tier shit. How are you supposed to play this?

And I've not played this but I'm guessing that SC will show the amount of Trots/Stalin/reforms in power. IM will deal with production, five year plans, purging, and internal control over the other SSR's. FM is pretty simple and I'm guessing also includes espionage. Ministers are assigning who is in charge of what for different bonuses. Science for research which would lead to better production and LUXURY SPACE COMMUNISM. Finance is bretty simple too. Just use your brain, it's seems to be pretty simple to play but I'm guessing it's hard to keep the SU together.

When does the East German version of this game Ostalgie come out? It sounds fun.

From what I'm reading up, this also includes Romania as a playable country or is it simply East Germany with a bigger focus on the warsaw pact as a whole?

The company is Russian

I wanted to play but im too late, back to kaiserreich france

Its East Germany, Bulgaria, and Romania

OP here, we'll continue this evening. 11 PM Eastern European time, to be precise.

The devs have a discord that they answer questions about the game and sequel in development and stuff discord.gg/qAXhtGH

So they're remaking the remake of the game?

The sequel is where you play as east germany, Romania, or Bulgaria.

That's actually nice, they could.. if not should, do that for most of the eastern bloc.
Anywhere else I can look up info on that instead of the discord?

en.kremlingames.com/ostalgie/ The English website isnt great tbh. The devs said it should come out in February or march 2018

Holy shit that is awesome.

And we're back, sorry for the delay. The dissidents are acting up again, but we can safely ignore them.

Also, any adjustments to oil production or economy in general?

...

Oh and automatically add surplus to reserve.

A portrait shot of an older, bald man with bifocal glasses. He is wearing a blazer over a collared shirt and tie. In his hands, he is holding a set of papers. On his chest are several medals, three of them visible in the form of stars.

No it was made by Russians.

Try to see if you can lower oil production and still keep 4 income.

I say decrease overall production massively until OPEC stop being cunts about the price.

Sorry to be a complete idiot but what would be a good source which discusses how the soviet power was subverted?

Right, so I've found the way to fix the economy/prevent eastern Block dissolution. still can't figure out how keep myself from getting couped though…

Before starting:

1. Go as Conservative/Moderate Leninist
2. Set corruption funding to 100
3. Mess around with the oil slider to maximize profits
4. Get cambodia, libya, syria into COMECON by aiding them
5. Give india weapons and next turn make them war with Pakistan (when they win they can join COMECON)
6. For other funding, click the "science" button
7. Use some of remaining surplus to give 40 each to medicine/food/arts in the menu that starts with 0 for all of them.
8. You can keep advisors more or less the same except for getting the environmentalist one

Tips for later:

1. Make sure you keep generals/kGB happy with funding/"envelopes".
2. When the republics drop below 40 loyalty lower taxes to 1% and give their leaders more envelopes
3. Prioritize researching automation techs; also research some army/KGB stuff if they start lagging behind.
4. Support sanctions against S. Africa then provide full support in the next event; they'll go commie and you can invite them to COMECON
5. after 1987 you should improve relations with China and get them in COMECON
6. DO NOT liberalize b/c then the eastern block starts breaking away which tanks your economy and political power

I don't know what economic/political reforms are best yet but I found "Kadarism" worked p well.

Anyone got more tips?

This. Please get rid of debts as soon as possible.

Alright, the economy is geared towards economic growtth. Moving on, we've got religious question. How do we solve it?

Ban it all.

This, full state atheism now.
