Nothing. We live in an economic system that gives political power to the people in our society who have the most money and capital. Obviously they're not going to want to give up their power (or capital). But that doesn't mean that we should simply accept the conditions of the society we live in. Having money doesn't make you better than those who don't, and often extremely talented people who happen to be poor aren't able to succeed as a result. Theoretically anyone can rise to the top under capitalism, but in practice it's incredibly difficult to do so. This is unacceptable.

We still haven't recovered from the great recession, automation is killing millions of jobs, America's infrastructure is crumbling, the opined epidemic is destroying lives, and we have several economic bubbles just waiting to burst. It's obvious that capitalism isn't working for most people, so looking at alternative political economic systems like communism is a pretty good idea imo.

Obviously we shouldn't throw out the entirety of capitalism without trying to understand what makes capitalism good, but we can't just sit around and let capitalism fail either. Really you should watch the video I linked in . It explains the ways that capitalism was really great thing, and it addresses the issues of capitalism too. Feudalism didn't last forever and there's no reason to think that capitalism will either.

What does this mean? Obviously we're not going to become fully communist overnight, it'll take a lot of work and logistics. In the end it'd be worth it to not have a system with regular crises, extreme poverty, and brutal exploitation.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that we have to let go of all of the progress humanity has made. We'd still have all the factories and infrastructure to use, we'd just move to a system that doesn't put capital accumulation above all other things. Job automation kinda makes a new system necessary, and the crises it'll bring are only 10ish years away.

Most of the historical side effects of communism have been due to communism being tried in poor, backwards countries.I'll admit that the USSR was shitty in a lot of ways, but that's not a reason to continue on with capitalism forever. We should learn from their mistakes and make sure that they never happen again. With the US's level of technology and wealth we wouldn't have to deal with famines like many communist countries had to while they industrialized. The US is already industrialized.
