I saw this on Holla Forums and it's the second story about scientists using AI to define people based on their looks. Why is it okay when computers do it, and what happens should there come a time when the models are 99.999% accurate?

The first test I saw seemed a bit faulty, since some dating sites tend to add a mood tint to pics based on their users preferences, IIRC. I think this is mostly much ado about nothing and media sensationalism of a simple study.

AI is a scam

AI is not a scam, but it's definitely bullshit in this case.

When will this meme end.

It makes sense, since your political leanings are likely to be born from your personality which is know to be influenced by genes.

It is though

t. computer illiterate

Plenty of people change political beliefs at some point in their life, hell a lot of people here used to Holla Forumsacks.

I actually thought AI was super cool until I started learning about it.

And that makes it a scam? Sure it's boring as hell and AI is a buzzword but machine learning is yuge.

Machine learning is even worse. People talk about it like some super effective silver bullet that will solve every intellectual problem ever but they are just shitty statistical methods that barely work, their results cannot be confirmed and there's no way to know why it gave the result it gave.

I'm an actual programmer and work with AI. What about it is a scam?

maybe it calculates if you're attracted to alternative leanings other than Democrat and Republican

Not him, but the ai we have today can hardly be called intelligent in the same sense we apply the word to ourselves. There's likely going to be another winter for ai researchers because of the stupid level of hype surrounding the field.

AI in the proper academic isn't a scam, but the popular idea of a sentient artificial consciousness, let alone one that goes rogue and kills everyone, is a science fiction fabrication.

Political leanings are simple to explain but close the impossible to calculate genetically.
Reason 1: Imperfect information. Your political leanings are often based on your personal beliefs applied to the world you can see. This means that you can come to different conclusions based on the knowledge you have about the world. Someone who has a strong sense of justice might have different leanings. Many nationalists (far from all) justify their political leaning based on the misconduct of multinational companies which exploit people. They believe that nationalism will hamper their ability to exploit workers. Their goal is nationalism and getting rid of the people in charge of "crony" capitalism. Without fully understanding the underlying mechanisms of capitalism. The same person if knowledgeable about capitalism might come to the conclusion that capitalism as a while should be abolished, becoming an internationalist socialist instead. Going from a nationalist to the internationalist, based on knowledge.
Reason 2: Social pressure. Different areas have different dominant beliefs and social conducts. Which also affect the political leaning of those people. Someone who follows the predominant ideology of the region might have completely different political leaning, then a similar personality type in a different region.

You can't blame modern researchers for the retarded hype around the field. The guys working on it in the 50s got everyone's hopes up, but it's the tech billionaires and tech illiterates pushing the retarded narratives around it. Calling AI a scam when it legit does fairly incredible things is wrong. The people that are wrong are those that expect some vaguely human level machine intelligence which is hilarious scifi nonsense.

You're 100% correct. AI in the modern sense isn't actually used the way people think. All these pop-sci articles are hilarious because even shit that normal people would think of as incredibly simple are a fucking nightmare to get working right.

HOW DID HE KNOW?

They actually contribute a lot to it, both directly (many actually participate in pushing that narrative, I guess it helps with funding) and indirectly (just look at the terms they use).

It doesn't.

Physiognomy is real.

...

hate to break it but human intelligence does not revolve around mathematics, commputers - the way they're constructed right now - are physically uncapable of emulating intelligence
