Smaller competitors could maybe work financially if they get users to host content, torrent style. Most their content doesn't need to be HD either which saves a ton of bandwidth/storage costs.

And the site should automatically detect whether an uploaded gif is black and white and whether the first and last frame are similar enough to create a good loop effect, and use these distinctions in the search function. I also have a visionary idea what the ideal way of organizing comments would be: Not having any, but the uploader can put a link to a forum or blog or whatever under the gif.
