Conservatives bastardizing Orwell

There's nothing that triggers me harder than conservatives saying 1984 and Animal Farm are about "why socialism doesn't work". Are Americans actually taught this in school?

Yes. Yes, we are. Sad, isn't it?

is this a joke?

Amerifats are the lowest of the low (I feel bad for any American comrades).

Why would you even think America has any standars of education whatsoever in the first place?

Nope. Dead serious.

I was taught he was a socialist actually

I went to an International School. The parents of an American kid in my History class were outraged to the point of complaining to the School that one of the texts my teacher asked us (17 year olds) to read the Communist Manifesto as part of studying Russian History.

I feel sorry for Burgers. The few Americans in my classes at Uni struggled to start with because it was completely different to what they'd been prepared for.

American are the lowest form of human existence, If america approves of something you are doing or if you are doing something that america already did, you are doing something bad

No.
This actually happens in secondary school english classes.

ORWELL WAS A SOCIALIST YOU FUCKING RETARDS. I HATE MY COUNTRY'S CONSERVATIVES SO MUCH.

where have you been?

I went to an American University and majored in history. I came from a British school that did IB and I was shocked my freshman year of college to have a history professor start her lecture with a speech about how history in higher education isn't like what the Americans had learnt in high school. She said that history isn't just memorizing dates and facts but about analyzing past events and making arguments and theories about them. I don't understand how you can learn history just memorizing dates and what the fuck is a "fact" in history?

Isnt most of Orwell's work just a bunch of weak jabs against Stalin and the Soviet Union, basically?

No. His early work and essays are pretty damn good.

Oh, guess I should take another look at them

Glorious Leader can't turn that "country" (TM) into a radioactive hellscape fast enough.

Read Homage to Catalonia. Orwell's jabs at Stalin were warranted

...

...

I find it quite hypocritical of a stalinist to post this. I thought you liked prisons?

No. Animal Farm is weak theoretically but I don't think it's meant to be a serious analysis of the USSR, more of a satire. 1984 is brilliant imo since it's not so much about the Soviet Union as it is about how governments control people in general, it's more in the realm of Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent except it makes its point through fiction. He also wrote a number of memories including Burmese Days which deals with the horrors of British colonialism in South Asia, Down and Out in Paris and London which deals with urban European poverty and Orwell's experiences as a young prole, and of course Homage to Catalonia which is about his service in the Spanish Civil War.

Reminder Revolutionary Catalonia actually gave the workers the MoP, something the USSR counldn't accomplish in its entire existence

lmfao No. Stay triggered, nigger.

When I was in high school I remember one of the questions in English class during our reading of Animal Farm is if Orwell would support capitalism. I argued with the teacher that he was a socialist and didn't support capitalism and her argument was that "he supported freedom."

Orwell was an anti-communist snitch. Neo-cons are his lot.

do ancoms not know Orwell was a succdem therefore not a socialist?

I'm out.

He was a demsoc. There is a difference. Demsoc are socialists. Succdem aren't.

Yeah and then it gave them all anal rape by Fascists.
