Marxism (actual marxism) is weaker today than it's ever been throughout the course of the 21st, 20th, and 19th century. I think it's going to be a long long long time before we see any change in our system. The Democrats look fucking hosed imo. They're about to go into the midterms still wrestling with an internal struggle against Insurrectionary Berniecrats, which even if they win, they're going to alienate a vast swathe of the young electorate that they'll need to win. I imagine the young'uns'll whomst'd've been fighting with the DNC will take a fair share of disgusted voters with them. I fully expect Republicans to sweep the elections, if only because the DNC is facing a no win scenario. Either they go left to get votes, which is only going to piss off their donors and the ACTUAL captains of the party, or they fight a bitter internal struggle against the rising tide of discontented young people. If they win, they can kiss all those votes goodbye forever. If they lose, they'll continue to lose elections as the remaining corporatists do everything possible to sabotage the Berniecrats that do manage to get in.
If I were a billionaire donor I'd take my money and run. With Zuckernerd hinting at running, this is what I expect them to do: either split and form a "new" party of rebranded Democrats run by "progressive" porkies, or just merge porky with the currently existing Democrats to eat the wind out of the Berniecrats' sails.
The Republicans are in their own mess, especially since we'll be coming up on redistricting soon, because surprise, it's the Democrats' turn to draw the districts, and that's not even the least of their problems.

Tbh UBI is a good idea at least as far as working class existence in general goes. Sanders is not, and has never been any kind of revolutionary socialist - and UBI is something it's understandable for a SocDem to support in a country that's this spooked about socialism. The problem is it's very hard to rationalize supporting making the system fail itself to death when in the meantime people have to live here and there's not really any assurance that by opposing something like UBI you won't just be forcing the poor to be worse off as the rich continue to thrive for the next century.
