nationalism can only be useful if somehow the proletarian and bourgeoisie develop two entirely separate cultures, which is almost never the case.

…..Nationalism means you working to "liberate" a class society from an outside control only in order to have the class hierarchy already there to function even better as a class society, and lets not forget, what set a communist from a labor or socdem is the fact the communist work for the betterment for the working class OF THE WORLD as a whole not favoring one part over the others

Look at what ethno centric national "liberation" does. The fall of Yugoslavia? Kosovo becoming an ethnic pure nationalist US puppet state? Nationalist tribe calls for independance in central Africa (Burkhina,Nigeria) ?

The list goes on.

Unlike most people I think that nationalism can be useful, simply because people generally respond positively to it. Imagine how much more successful a socialist movement in America would be if it could somehow convince people that socialism was in line with American national identity and consciousness? If people drew parallels between putting porkies against the wall and throwing out the British, say crushing fascism as an American tradition because of WW2, and made socialist interpretations of the ideas of Lincoln and Jefferson? People will like you more if you wrap yourself in the flag than if you burn it, and in America in particular there is a long history of struggle against oppression that can certainly be spun to make socialism seem as American as baseball and apple pie. The fight against slavery, civil rights movement, the revolutionary war, WW2, the labour movement, etc could all be held up as examples of why socialism and American national identity are perfectly compatible.

Because literally all national-liberation socialist movements had end in leaving away revolutionaty goal and became socialdemocracy in one country.

Class struggle can't be covered by nationalist struggle. When nation archieve it's nation-state, it's having new ruling class representing it's own interests, not our.
