Now let's reason a bit. How does a guerrilla movement finance its activities? If it operates in urban centers, it can rob banks. But Colombian guerrillas were peasants. There aren't poper cities around to be taken and taxed, all there is is utterly miserable villages. They can barely farm enough for subsistence, so they're in no state to fund the fighting. The best thing, or even only thing, that will get you any money in those parts is, you guessed it, coca, because of international demand for coke.

A common arrangement in all those Northern Andean jungle areas that can sustain coca plants is the following. By default, the local governments and police are reactionary, and are either cowed by, bought out by, or just plain are the narcos. By this I mean the actual, hardened criminal gangs and cartels. So peasants plant coca (again, because it's the only economic activity worth a damn), narcos process and smuggle it out, local authorities look the other way (or join in), and central authorities don't know, don't care or are also in on it.

One day gommie guerrillas show up, and they tend to be much better fighters than narcos or podunk cops. Corrupt authorities get served a lead salad. Or all authorities, it's not like there's a rule. Narcos are told to keep working and give them a cut, or face the consequences. The guerrillas don't give a shit about the morality of it because as far as they're concerned, it's 99% the problem of gringo imperialists. They made this mess, now they deal with it. Other guerrillas in the region also do (did?) the same thing to varying degrees, including the Sendero.

An organization that spends more time dealing drugs than any meaningful political struggle, even trying to give up their arms for amnesty in the recent peace talks.
An organization that destroyed any hope for the left in the areas it operated by torturing and massacring workers for literally no reason other than show of force. A fucking embarrassment, and an embarrassment that hasn't even been Maoist for years now.

After Abimael Guzman was arrested the party leadership fell apart, there was tons of infighting, and now that most of the party leadership are completely different people, they've slid deeper and deeper into illigalism to fund their actions, and have essentially become narcos. This is why you see MLMs talk about India and Napal all the time, but no one hardly mentions Peru anymore.

That's because those groups show, as a matter of fact, how delusional communism is, and how they didn't achieve nothing in decades. So it's best to believe they just don't exist, and that when Syria gets some peace, commies there will be some magical socialist utopia, if the group remains there, being degenerates crippling the development(like the ones you mentioned), leftists will just pretend they are not true socialists, if not, you'll say true socialism was just about to be made, only to be ruined by selfish and greedy people, or a neocon ninja ghosts conspiracy.

Thinking ahead, maybe it's best for the Kurds to get stomped hard, that way you can claim they were about to achieve a ture socialist society, without money and markets, where everyone loves each other, even though they actually weren't not even close to doing that.
