It surprises me how after that huge fiasco, Inti Creates just released what is basically a Mighty Number 9 demake that is several times better that the original.

Overwatch is a perfect game. It's like Team Fortress 2 but with masturbation.

I think it's largely due to factors like cost cutting and the one to two year production cycle the larger publishers seem addicted to, to say nothing of the immense cost "triple A" features seem to incur. It doesn't help either when they blow big parts of their budgets on things like getting Patrick Stewart to do voice work.

It's good if you don't play ranked. nerfs hit you hard when you rank your ass and it's basically like labor, it's no longer a game.

I dunno where you're getting this nonsense. 1.42 is only good for netplaying a certain selection of games. It desyncs on a lot of others (whereas 1.36 never desyncs), and has less features and worse emulation on many games than 1.51.

Finish up, get washed with Dark Souls 3 then get back to 2. Scholar of The First Sin if possible since its 2 but better ofc. All of the games are unbalanced as fuck, they have that 1 thing that breaks PvP.

No Dark Souls game is 10/10 at all. Fromsoft is bad at making games and sometimes even levels.

The best level of DS1 is the great hollow.

I think not; DS2's DLC's have better level design for the most part, but each of them has completely disappointing bosses (Blue smelter, the two cats, and the NPC boss). I don't remember the Great Hollow too well, but the painted world always stands out. DS2's level design is completely disconnected from each zone that it comes off as a giant mess at times.

I have yet to play ds3, bb, or des though.

3 is a boring linear total piece of shit but it has decent bosses. No better than those of DS1 through.

I used to be a hardcore CS:GO player. big fan of Team Liquid but I've fallen off the video game train. I don't really know why. I've tried so many different types from RuneScape to Super Meat Boy but I can't click with anything.

I don't know… I think story rich is kind of a big deal for me. I want to be sucked into the universe and I want to feel the characters. For example I loved the Walking Dead Tell Tale series.

I also love pixelated stuff.

I haven't played Monkey Island or any of the Lucas Arts point and click games but they seem tempting to try.

I have stared into that abyss. Don't play the game on hardcore-character, expert-world where you restart when you die. It just isn't worth it.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is pretty good for dialog and the game world. I've heard the Lisa series is good for sidescrolling pixel stuff and writing.

If you like sarcastic and absurd humor then definitely give mi a try. On scummvm though if possible rather than those hideous remakes.

Impressive, how long does a playthrough like that take? I try as hard as I can to zip through to hardmode, but I always end up preparing excessively for the Wall of Flesh and stockpiling fished crates to open up for easy minerals afterward. Got any tips?

Last game I bought was Axiom Verge in 2015. I think I played for a couple of hours before I lost interest. I eventually just uninstalled steam. Most modern games can't even run on this laptop.

I've watched vinesauce streams of Darkest Dungeon, though, and noticed sudden pangs of my old dopamine addiction resurfacing. Apparently, I get really thirsty watching that super OCD micro-management heroin dangled in front of me. But I don't fucking like getting sucked into a skinnerbox if it's not even going to (pretend to) relieve stress.

Is the game really as fucked up as they say it is? Am I going to lose my entire endgame party to bullshit critical hits and failed escape attempts while the devs tell you to "adjust expectations 8DDDDDD"

From start to finish, probably 60ish hours, depends on how much time you spend decorating and how lucky you are with certain drops
WoF and skeletron prime are probably the hardest difficulty spikes
It's not hard as much as it is tedious
Auto-pause is your best friend, never go into a cave without a shining potion
Put the nurse by every boss you feasibly can so you can run to her if you need to, she can tank a hit or 2from most bosses which is all you'll really need with autopause
On a note unrelated to hardcore/expert, if you haven't yet you should consider terraria mods, quite a few of them add about as much as the base game itself provides and there's mods that add post moonlord bosses that are meant to be challenging

Skeletron Prime, really? I hardly have any problem with Skeletron Prime, the Twins are by far the most difficult mechanical boss for me. Haven't managed to survive to fight Plantera and beyond yet.

I doubt there are any good actually-well-designed gameplay mods, not interested in shitty reskins or stat mods. I think it's hard to introduce novel gameplay into this sort of game through modding.

So what are some of the best weapons in your opinion to seek out once hardmode unlocks? There's so much new shit I never know what to get. At least Demon Scythe stays useful for quite a while.

There are actually some great mods, almost all of them are mainly QoL shit or small gameplay changes that add interesting shit, I don't think I could play again without zoaklen.
To be fair, my favorite playstyle is summoner, and it's miserable to play without mods.

it depends on what you're looking for
there's mods that actually alter or add gameplay mechanics to add complexity to the game, such as an energy system that gives you a finite amount of stamina to work with before becoming exhausted at which point you have to wait for your stamina to recharge
In addition to that, one of the mods adds what is for all intents and purposes expert+ mode which makes all vanilla bosses essentially just artificially difficult (which i'm largely unimpressed with) but the mod that adds this mode comes with its own set of bosses which are largely impacted by expert+ in ways that aren't artificial
Also, some of the mods add gear that makes summoner and thrower classes a non-joke class and two of them add completely new classes (one of the mods that adds new classes are largely multiplayer classes, though)

Daedalus stormbow, probably. It makes destroyer a breeze and allows you to outright skip breaking demon altars which means no random corruption/crimson/(hallow?) spread later on. Stockpiling crates to get adamant/titanium gear achieves this to an extent but daedalus stormbow is more consistent

I've been playing Fallout 4 lately, but I'm planning on playing through the Etrian Odyssey series soon.

I tried playing that once but I could never stop the game from running at 300+ FPS.

The new Doom was basically the exact same fight over and over and over again, without any of the creative enemy placement, resource management, or clever level design of Doom classic.

But it was a really good fight.

Consoles and PCs (IBM PC compatible) are not the same internally and the same results on screen can be very different things for the developers to do

The point of a consoles has diminished over time as gaming PCs have become cheaper and more widely available along with console manufactures going with off the shelf components. A PS4 and XBox One are just gaming rigs in a small form factor yet with no real cost advantage. The Nintendo Switch still has a niche but Nintendo will always find new ways to disappoint its die hard fans and to screw over anyone trying to mod the system to run home brew games like they continue to do with the 3DS.

In socialism all platforms would be completely open, meaning anyone could just download a dev kit and start writing code for it and naturally share their code with everyone.

After a while I just begun to feel burnt out and now I mostly just play retro games and indies. Things that don't have huge stories or require 100s of hours of multiplayer to git gud.

I still hop on WoW once or twice a year for a month or so when I'm feelin it though.

i'm 26 and have lost almost all interest in games, unfortunately. the only thing i play now are fighting games, and that's only once or twice a month. the gaming industry feels like it's nothing but AAA games and early access online crap on Steam. I'm really not into that.

You're talking from a consumer standpoint while my concerns stem from a developers stand point. The PCs we have today are still IBM PC compatibles which only run games out of the wits of the developers since the PC has never had any given benefits to run games so everything was done by the CPU. In the days of DOS there were no hardware sprites making the games wonky and the development cumbersome. Now in the days of windows games just run because he have tons of RAM but developing your own engine is way too complicated compared to other machines.
Right now I'm in love with the PSX hardware, it has a RISC processor that lets you run compiled languages without eating much memory, it does 2d and 3d in hardware, plays audio CD music and probably PCM samples. Developing on it is a breeze

The IBM PC was engineered as a workstation, its descendants only became gaming machines due to a fluke of the market and Microsoft being highly aggressive. Running AIX or OS/2 on a IBM Personal System/2 shows what IBM PC standards were good at back then. The IBM clones were a odd choice for homes in the 1980's and early 1990's due to their cost and being geared towards enterprise use and the fact there was cheaper hardware aimed at the home back then.

As for programming on the PSX, try programming for the Sega Dreamcast, its protection is a joke and it is easy to develop for.

yes I know the story of the IBM compatibles and such but that my pint stands, they're not game machines.
I also know the dreamcast had no copy protection but I just find the lower poly count of the PSX more charming, dreamcast games look too polished for me.

They were not efficient at gaming but neither was the PDP-7 yet games were written for it, same for the Soviet BESM-4 mainframe as to real computer gurus saying something is not a gaming machine is a challenge thus why there are ports of doom on programmable calculators.

Sure they run games but that doesn't mean the devs had a good time doing them.

The Ti-89 only has a 10Mhz 68k and 1/4 meg of ram with a very simplistic chipset making it weaker then the Sega Genesis (that still can't run Doom without extra chips helping) so trying to get actual Doom on a Ti-89 runs up against major hardware limitations.
